Why I Refuse To Give My Money to Dunkin’

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

Growing up, Dunkin’ Donuts was the only coffee chain within a 20-mile radius, so I never really allowed myself to realize how terrible it was. Now that I’m at UMass, not only do I have the luxury of Starbucks, but there are also so many local coffee shops and on-campus cafes with great coffee. I have also worked at a cafe for the past eight months and have developed a certain standard for my coffee. I don’t have any need to go to Dunkin’, and I simply cannot justify spending my limited funds there anymore.

All throughout high school, my order never changed. I think every single teen girl in my hometown drank the exact same coffee, which gives me a reason to believe that Dunkin’ would have mastered the art of the iced coffee with cream and caramel swirl. But Dunkin’ drinks are like snowflakes; no two are the same. Every Dunkin’ franchise is consistently inconsistent in taste, or lack thereof. I know I’m not the only one who feels this way, as Dunkin’ drinking TikTokers often turn to the platform to post when their drink tastes like “swamp water.” Paying for Dunkin’ is like entering a lottery for good coffee.

You’re also lucky if you’re given exactly what you ordered. And this goes for food too! I am not a fan of any of the food options at Dunkin’, as I find that they are always flavorless and come out so hot that they almost seem soggy.

With that said, desperate times call for desperate measures.

Over the summer, I was running late to work and needed something to eat fast. I ordered what was seemingly the healthiest option on the menu: the power breakfast sandwich. My only request for my order was no cheese because I don’t eat dairy products these days. And what was on my sandwich when I unwrapped it? You guessed it! Cheese! No worries, Dunkin’, I’ll just peel it off myself.
