Why Beach Towns Are Superior in the Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

I’m lucky enough to have a family home in Maine where I spend a lot of my summer. However, some of my favorite days in Maine have taken place in the fall. As much as I love spending all day tanning on the beach, I think there is something really special about being able to visit or live in a coastal town during the fall season. Here’s why I think beach towns are superior in the fall.

Less Crowds

I think this one is a dealbreaker for a lot of people. When you take time off of school or work the last thing you want to do is sit in traffic all day. Going to the beach during the off-season, especially in October or later, you’ll have absolutely no problem with traffic. Fewer crowds also mean more availability for hotels and rental homes, and you may even be able to book at a price lower than what you would pay in the summer. Personally, my favorite part of the towns being less crowded is that there are little to no waits for the best restaurants.

Great weather

Personally, my favorite type of weather is a sunny fall day. Although it may be too cold to tan or swim in the ocean, especially on the East Coast, you can still have a really good time on the beach during the fall. It’s really good weather to be active in, so you could spend your time taking a walk or playing games. I really enjoy just spending some time sitting on the beach and watching the sunset during the fall. The air is super crisp and usually, the beach is basically empty, so it’s a very relaxing experience.

cute & cozy vibes

I really love the aesthetic of beach towns during the fall. Where I visit, a lot of houses and businesses go all out with their fall and Halloween decorations. There are also a ton of fall markets and festivals to go to as well. At some beaches, you are able to see both the ocean and the trees with the leaves changing colors on them at the same time. When people think of these coastal towns, they tend to only think of how they look and feel during the summer months. I personally think the vibes during the fall are unmatched wherever you go, but they’re especially nice on the beach.

The fall season is in full swing and I have already enjoyed some time on the beach, and I hope I have inspired you all to try and do the same! Have fun exploring :)
