We Wonder: Why Do We Love Boybands So Much?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

It’s a formula that’s been proven to work for decades now: find a group of hot, preferably single, boys that can sing well, teach them some choreography and debut them to the world. Have them release a few albums, embark on worldwide tours and merchandise everything from dolls to blankets with their faces on it. Cue the screaming and tears from the fangirl masses. There’s no denying it – as long as teenage girls are around, boybands will flourish. But why do we, even as Collegiettes, like them so much?

Because they allow us to stay young.

Because there’s a member for everyone.

Because they provide bubbly, danceable pop music – and that makes us happy.

Because they’re so cute!

Because they know how to dance, even as guys.

Because they make girls feel special.

Because there’s always one member you can count on to stick around after the group breaks up.

Because you can always picture yourself marrying one of them.

Because something about them just makes you want to scream.

Because you can always count on a reunion tour when you’re older.

Continue fan-girling, Collegiettes!
