Opon graduating high school, the big question became: “What college are you going to?” After being asked this question more times than I can count, I noticed there are a lot of presumed ideas about the University of Massachusetts. I felt like I knew the school before even attending it. Much of what people had told me was incorrect. I expected the school to be one way, but it was far from it.

Expectation 1: Party Scene.

One of the first things I heard about UMass is that it is a crazy party school. Some people even went so far as to tell me that the only thing to do on the weekends is to party. This is a big misconception. UMass parties are not a Project X coming to life. Most students do not go out every weekend but instead watch Netflix with their friends like normal students do.

Expectation 3: Amazing Food.

This is the only opinion I had heard that was accurate. We are #1 Dining after all.

Reality:

Expectation 4: Getting Lost on Campus.

The campus is large to say the least. I felt like I was never going to find any buildings. The most helpful tip I was given was to download the Google Map app and it will locate any building you need. Over time, the app will not be needed because you become an expert navigator on campus.
