Studying can be a daunting task, especially when you’re faced with the challenge of finding the ideal study spot. But with the right ambiance, and some carefully selected tunes, you can turn any space into a perfect spot for productivity. Let’s explore some UMass campus study spots and songs that fit their vibes!

1. South College

Located near the campus center by Goodell Hall and the Old Chapel, South College is a tranquil study spot as you find yourself surrounded by a traditional brick structure, capturing the essence of academia with a peaceful ambiance. I love this spot when I really want to romanticize my studying experience!

For this study spot, I think of songs like:

  • “Cardigan” – Taylor Swift
  • “Waiting for Cars” – Soccer Mommy
  • “Small Talk” – Briston Maroney
  • “When the world is on fire” – Greek
  • “Two Ghosts” – Harry Styles
  • “Love Me Like You Used To” – Lord Huron

2. Isenberg

Isenberg School of Management has a modern and dynamic unique study vibe. It has a big open feel with large windows and an outside seating area in the center of the circular architecture of the building. There are quiet corners and private study rooms along with an abundance of open spaces of collaborative areas. I love the navy blue booths, but no matter where in the building, the study areas maintain a sleek and modern feel.

For this study spot, I think of songs like:

  • “Ghost in the Machine” – SZA, Phoebe Bridgers
  • “Distance” – Yebba
  • “Fucked Up” – Jiin, Daniel Caesar
  • “In My Room” – Frank Ocean
  • “Chateau (Feel Alright)” – Djo
  • “Japanese Denim” – Daniel Caesar

3. Design Building

The Design Building also offers some really nice study spots, either in the seating area at Post & Bean Cafe or the seating in the upper floors. It has large glass windows that invite natural light and an innovative use of wood and steel. It has colorful orange chairs and green walls but is tied together with the warmth of the wood and natural light. The Design Building to me definitely feels more playful and creative.

For this study spot, I think of songs like:

  • “Televised” – HUNNY
  • “Shy” – Saint Blonde
  • “There’s Still A Light In The House” – Valley
  • “Sweet Talk” – Saint Motel
  • “Sol Del Sur” – Sun Room
  • “Lots of Nothing” – Spacey Jane

4. Integrated Science Building

The Integrated Science Building near Worcester Dining Commons is thoughtfully designed with dedicated study spaces in these wooden nooks and study carrels. The nooks face the large windows, I usually study here in the afternoon and I love that the sunset lighting hits perfectly, making it feel very warm and inviting.

For this study spot, I think of songs like:

  • “Miss Romantic” – Cleo Sol
  • “Sign and Signal” – Yazmin Lacey
  • “Le Depart” – Adi Oasis
  • “Moment Of Your Life” – Brent Faiyaz, Coco Jones
  • “When I’m In Your Arms” – Cleo Sol
  • “Summers Over Interlude” – Drake, Majid Jordan

The songs selected to match these vibes add an extra layer of comfort and motivation, helping you dive into your work with focus and inspiration. So, whether you’re in the mood for some Taylor Swift while studying in South College or prefer the dreamy tunes of Cleo Sol in the Integrated Science Building, your study environment and music can be the perfect duo for academic success. So, go ahead, hit play on your favorite tunes and make the most of your study sessions on the UMass campus. Happy studying!
