Tips and Tricks for Not Freezing Your Bum Off in this Weather!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

I am obsessed with dressing for the weather, especially once it gets chilly out. There is nothing worse than shivering in the Learning Commons. Here are some tips for keeping your tush warm without looking like an overstuffed sausage!

Layers, Layers, and more Layers

I hope I’m not the only one who resorts to wearing sport/ski thermals under my shirts (…okay and jeans) once it hits below freezing. A much cuter way to stay warm is by layering. This season is all about the collared shirt under a sweater look, as seen on J.Crew.com. Add a jacket and statement necklace to look especially put together.

Tights:

While bare legs may attract the boys, they definitely aren’t worth the freezing pain you’ll feel when you walk home from the bars in negative degree weather. I have never made a better purchase than buying thick tights with soft fleece on the inside. There are some footless ones from Anthropologie.

Thick Socks:

Thick socks are the best. Hands down. Make them cute by wearing long ones with boots and jeans!

Headbands:

My little brother Andrew used to croquet me headbands to wear skiing. I always get compliments on how cute and warm they look. I love headbands especially because my small head tends to get swallowed by hats. Contact me if you’d like a custom one or check a bunch of cute ones on Asos.com!

FUR!

As my friends know, I am obsessed with fur. I love it. Thank goodness fur is everywhere lately because now I don’t feel like a fool wearing it out in public! If you’re just starting out with this trend, try a fur hat or fur trimmed hood. A fur vest is perfect for transitional weather or wearing over a light jacket. A fur jacket is for the most daring, but I can guarantee that people will be hugging you all night.
