Things I am Thankful for Everyday, Not Just Around the New Year

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

The new year brings the promise for growth, movement, discovery, and change. This time of year often forces us to think about the things we are grateful for, the things that have shaped us, and all the things that we hope to accomplish in the future.

While this time serves a great period for reflection and rebirth, there are many things that you should be thankful for all year round, no matter the struggle, no matter the loss, and no matter the circumstances.

Here are a few things that I am grateful for everyday, not just around the start of the new year.

1. Family

Nothing in the world is more important to me than family. I am forever thankful for everything they’ve done for me and everything they continue to do for me.

2. Good Friends

What’s better than having a good group of friends, or even a few people who you can confide in, laugh with, make memories with, cry with, and experience life with? Never take for granted the people who willingly choose to stay in your life and all of the memories they bring along with them.

3. Self-Improvement

Even if it’s small changes, every step in the positive direction is important and beneficial to your growth.

4. Movement

Around the new year, almost everyone has the goal to get back in the gym and work towards their dream body. However, having the ability to move, exercise, dance, and be active 365 days of the year is truly a blessing.

5. Good Health

Good health is something that can be easily overlooked until you or your loved one’s no longer have it. It is important everyday to appreciate where you are, what you have, and what your loved one’s have.

6. Kindness from Strangers

One of the easiest things you can do in this world is to be kind. You truly never know how much your positive words and thoughts could impact someone else.

7. Weekends

Even though its only a few days, nothing is better than being able to relax and refresh after a long, busy week.

8. Home

No matter how you define home, whether its a roof over your head, a certain town, a particular place, or even a person, it is important to recognize and be thankful for this.

9. Education

College has presented me with numerous opportunities, but the most important is part is that I have the ability to show up to class everyday and learn about things that I am passionate about.

10. The Little Things

A sunrise, fresh air, a cup of coffee, laughter, or even a good song. It’s the little things that often start us out on a good note or that have the ability to turn our bad days around. Never underestimate the power in the simple things.

Having something to look forward to everyday makes all the difference. But more importantly, being able to recognize the things you are thankful for each morning is a win all in itself.
