Songs for Self-Love Because You’re Worth It

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

The reality of it is that we all need a confidence boost once in a while, and I recently learned that listening to the same music frequently, makes you take in the lyrics. So here are a few of my favorite self-love songs to warm your heart:

1. “Just The Way You Are” by Bruno Mars

Bruno’s lyrics are about a lover convincing his partner that she’s worthy of his time and affection because she’s having trouble seeing that herself. It’s a reminder to women that we’re capable of being loved despite the flaws that we hold against ourselves. The message is clear; we don’t need to conform to meet anybody’s standards. Our friends are a reflection of that; they stick by us even with our perceived imperfections.

2. “Wanted” by Hunter Hayes

How sweet are these lyrics? This blonde cutie croons, “Your beauty is deeper than your makeup” and wins you over with swoon-worthy lyrics like “As good as you make me feel / I want to make you feel better / Better than your fairy tales”. These are words that everyone deserves to hear from their loved ones. “Wanted” will give you all the feels from these lines that are usually reserved for romance movies.

3. “Invisible” by Hunter Hayes

If you’re going through a rough time, “Invisible” will help you vent; it’s a good release when you need to let your emotions out. It’s a song written about the singer’s experience with being bullied so his lyrics speak to your soul if you ever feel lonely. Additionally, it’s a good reminder that things get better when facing tough circumstances. We can follow his ways by using a difficult experience as inspiration for art.

4. “Fight Song” by Rachel Platten

Rachel wrote this uplifting song, interestingly enough, when she was struggling to make it into the music industry. Just think of how she overcame ten years of hardship when you listen to “Fight Song”. It’s a song that screams inspiration.

5. “Stronger” by Kelly Clarkson

Similarly, this popular breakup anthem is for the underdogs who are persistent when facing adversity. Sing “Stronger” at the top of your lungs, and you’ll instantly feel your confidence building from the catchy lyrics. This powerful song is about moving forward where you no longer allow your past to determine your future.

6. “Not A Bad Thing” by Justin Timberlake

“Not A Bad Thing,” is about embracing a newfound relationship when you’ve found the right match, instead of letting insecurities take over. Listen to JT’s soulful voice when he sings “Baby you’re worth it,” and maybe you’ll actually believe it if you listen to this song on repeat.

The takeaway from these songs is to save some of the immense love that you have for others, for yourself. Feel free to listen to them over and over again because “You’re worth it.”
