Sobrio App: Stay Safe on Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

So it’s the weekend again, and you and your friends are invited to a party across town. You all really want to go, but no one is up for DDing.

We have the perfect solution for you: the new Sobrio app!

Sobrio, (also known as “The Designated Driving App”) is a fairly new application that connects college students, who need safe rides, to the nearest designated drivers at their colleges or universities. It is an easy four-step process:

1. Type in your current location

2. Type in your destination

3. Type in how many people you are planning to ride with

4. Provide a time that you hope to head out for your destination

Sobrio immediately connects you with ride offers from students who provide you with a suggested donation (it’s really cheap!), estimated time of arrival, and even a picture of what their car looks like! They even show you the ratings of drivers in your area so that you can make sure to find the best ride possible.

While safety at college is always important, it is even more important to be aware of safety in the coming week, due to Halloween. While UMass is often referred to as “The Zoo,” there is no time where that phrase is more accurate than during Halloweekend. While it can be extremely dangerous to get into a vehicle with an intoxicated driver, it can also be very risky to walk home when you’re not in the best state of mind. Take advantage of this sober driving app and you’ll be partying like a pro in no time.
