“I got my red dress on tonight

Dancing in the dark in the pale moonlight

Done my hair up real big beauty queen style

High heels off, I’m feeling alive.”

-“Summertime Sadness” Lana Del Rey

Red: The color of passion, sexiness and love. The color red is said to trigger instant attractions and curiosities in the human mind, having the power to grab just about anyone’s attention. Red allows  you to standout from the crowd, and establish a memorable presence. But so many of us shy away from wearing the color, when in fact, we should celebrate its benefits. This Valentine’s Day, turn some heads and embrace your inner fierceness by incorporating this powerful hue into your favorite looks. Let red enhance your finest asset… your hot confidence!

So… before you tell yourself that Red is a color that you simply can’t pull off, consider these looks:

1. The LRD (Little Red Dress)

The most obvious way to rock out in Red would be to make it the main attraction. When wearing red, it is important to feel comfortable so that you may feel confident. Try dresses that flaunt your shape by accentuating your curves, legs, or neckline.

Remember: Let the color do the talking. Sexy does not mean skimpy, and wearing red means that you can try more modest dress styles if you so choose.

2. Hot Heels

Who doesn’t love a little boost? If you aren’t into Red threads, then let your feet make the statement. Red heels can instantly add some heat to any outfit and channel the attention straight to your legs.

Remember: It’s all about balancing sexiness with class! A simple, Red high heel (minus the studs, belt hooks, and laces) will enhance your fabulous ensemble, without looking too obnoxious. Aim for classic styles such as pumps, strappy heels, or even a stiletto.

3. Big Red Pout

Whether you will be chatting it up with a date, or puckering up for a special someone, take a chance and sport a bold red lipstick. Depending on your skin tone, pick a red that you feel flatters your natural features the best. The spectrum of red lipstick can range from a tropical, orangey red to a deep, vampy red. Make sure to exfoliate lips first, and then prime them with a long-lasting moisturizer to ensure a smooth look. Also, lining lips with a matching lip pencil will avoid the color from bleeding.

Remember: Let your red lips steal the show. The rest of your makeup should be subtle, this way your face does not look overdone (yes this does mean no smokey eye). When in doubt, look to Marilyn Monroe for inspiration!

4. Crimson Claws

If you find yourself staring at the nail polish wall during your next manicure, unsure of which color should be your next, consider a bold red. So often do we overlook this color because it may seem like the obvious choice, or too common. However, red nails are striking, and look fabulous against every skin tone. Red nails can also assist in upping your hand flirt game… score!

Remember: Try for a deep, glossy red, or a classic shade of red. These sultry colors will draw immediate attention to your hands. If you’re feeling particularly crafty, check pinterest for fun Valentine’s Day inspiration nails too.

Hopefully you will think twice before you decide to shy away from this amazing color. Be bold, Collegiettes!
