It’s Monday and you are not having a good day. You are finally done with classes and get back home. You arrive at your door and see something that brightens your day up really quick — it’s your Birchbox. Birchbox is a beauty box company that sends its customers boxes of beauty samples tailored to them. There are monthly subscriptions or just one-time purchases. Each customer creates a profile with their beauty needs and beauty types, such as oily or dry skin and a fair, medium, or dark tone. Then every month, they are sent a wonderful beauty box that is crafted just for them.

There are a variety of beauty samples that range from different lipsticks, eyeliner, mascara, dry shampoo, self-tanner, makeup wipes, hairspray, perfume and more. Each month has a different theme, for example March is a Draper James theme (Birchbox teamed up with Draper James, Reese Witherspoon’s lifestyle brand). If you are interested in signing up for Birchbox, here are some pros and cons to think about!

Pros:

1. The variety Birchbox sends you

With each box you get, there are so many options — hair products, lotion, and perfume, as well as lip, brow or eyelash items!

2. The adorable box decor

I save every one that I’ve received and use them for storage because they are so cute.

3. The samples are amazing quality

4. Birchbox tailors the samples to YOU.

5. It allows you to broaden your beauty horizons

When I find a beauty product I love, I stick with it. I have loved the same mascara since freshman year of college and have been using it throughout my four years. But with Birchbox, you are able to try different products with a smaller sample size so if you don’t like it, it’s not like you spend a million dollars on it — it’s only $10 for multiple samples.

6. You can send them as gifts!

You can send a friend a subscription to try them out for three months!

7. You can buy boxes individually each month

Just want one for January and one for June? Then choose to buy later, not by subscription.

Cons:

1. Sometimes the samples are small and go quick!

But then again, that means that you loved the sample and should just go buy some more.

2. $10 a month does add up

If you think about it, $10 a month ends up being $120 a year. Do you have $120 extra to spend a year? If so, great! If not, then maybe you should save your money.

I hope this information helped. All in all, there seems to be way more pros than cons. I know I love receiving a surprise box every month. Happy shopping! Check out Birchbox here.

U Mass Amherst

I'm now a senior at UMass Amherst & started Her Campus my freshman year. I had just transferred from Clemson University in South Carolina and it allowed me to find friends immediately. HC also helped open myself up to a passion of mine - journalism and writing. Additionally, Her Campus helped me meet people who inspired me to get more involved on campus - which is why I joined Greek life as well as got a job for student activities and involvement. As sappy as it is, HC has changed my college experience in so many ways. Besides HC, I am a double major in journalism and biology, and work as a tour guide and for Student Activities & Involvement. I am the VP of Alumnae Relations of Sigma Kappa Beta Eta, involvement in a number of other organizations, and I love mozzarella sticks and Nutella (but not together!)
