The Perks of Having an Older Sister as told by Alex Dunphy from Modern Family

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

Let’s face it, when you have an older sister sometimes it’s hard to focus on the positive things they can bring to the table in order to balance out how annoying they might be. But Alex and Haley from Modern Family show us how awesome it can be to have an older sister (excluding getting on each others nerves 24/7).

1. They tell it how it is. Older sisters aren’t afraid to tell you if that shirt doesn’t look the best on you or if they have a funny feeling about your new guy. Even if you might get annoyed with her for expressing her opinion you still appreciate it.

2. They’re a built-in friend. Older sisters will always be there when you need a shoulder to lean on or a heart-to-heart. No matter how much you might say you hate each other, in the end you’ll always have one another to depend on.

Plus, they share the blame when you get in trouble with Mom or Dad. When it comes down to it, older sisters will go down with you even if the fender bender on the car or the broken vase wasn’t necessarily her fault.

4. They’re always there for you in times of need. Whether you’re having on homework or you need insight on friendship or boys, your older sister will always be there to help…

5. No matter how much you fight, you still enjoy doing things together. You could be fighting one minute to going to the mall together the next. Despite your differences you enjoy a lot of the same things.

So when it’s time for them to leave for college, you know you’re really going to miss them. Although you say you can’t wait for them to leave for school already, deep down you know you’re going to miss bickering with them over nonsense and having someone to turn to. In the end mom was right, never take your sister for granted.
