Hopefully, everyone survived the midterm season! However, I bet you are in need of some entertainment and good laughs after studying and working for hours. Sitcoms are my favorite style of show to watch when in need of funny jokes, good storylines, and entertaining characters. I made a list of some of my favorite sitcoms that I have recently watched, as well as a few honorable mentions that are next on my list! I hope these sitcoms keep you engaged and your mind off homework for at least 25 minutes.Â
- ‘Brooklyn 99’
-
One of my favorite TV shows that constantly had me laughing, while still invested in the characters, was Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Jake Peralta, a very talented detective, must learn how to grow up under the new command of Captain Holt at Brooklyn’s 99th Police Precinct. Throughout the eight seasons on Peacock, the show follows a comical group of detectives as they solve cases and adapt to life’s challenges. Every day at the police precinct brings amusing situations, and it always keeps me entertained.
- ‘Friends’
-
Friends is an extremely nostalgic show for me, as I grew up watching it with my parents. The show follows six friends as they try to adjust to adulthood in New York City. They must navigate new jobs, romantic relationships, parenthood, and the crazy situations they get themselves stuck in. Chandler, Rachel, Monica, Ross, Joey, and Phoebe have amazing chemistry. The characters remain humorous and entertaining, no matter how many times you watch it or how often they are in Central Perk. I love re-watching this show; it consistently lifts my spirits and always leaves me laughing.
- ‘The Office’
-
To be honest, it was difficult for me to get through the first season of The Office however, it is only six episodes, and absolutely amazing after that. Before starting, I had been worried that I wouldn’t enjoy the show as it seemed boring. However, The Office had me constantly cracking up and caused my roommate to give me weird looks when I watched it. The Office is a mockumentary-style sitcom about office employees at Dunder Mifflin Paper Company, under their unprofessional boss, Michael Scott. While a day at an office may seem boring, Michael Scott likes to keep it lively with inappropriate jokes, pranks, and crazy antics. It also depicts common work experiences like company changes, office drama, and workplace culture. The Office is extremely entertaining and great to watch after midterms.
- ‘New Girl’
-
In New Girl, quirky teacher Jessica Day moves in with three guys, where they must learn to navigate their insane living situation and try to become friends. Through the show’s seven seasons, Jess, Nick, Schmidt, Winston, and Cece become unlikely friends as they figure out their lives, jobs, and romances. New Girl includes goofy one-liners, hilarious friendships, and great pranks that always kept me laughing and wanting more.
- ‘Abbott Elementary’
-
Abbott Elementary is another mockumentary-style sitcom that follows its staff passionately teaching students in Philadelphia. While the school remains underfunded, the teachers and disordered principal remain steadfast in teaching the new generation of students. Each teacher brings hilarious aspects to the school and must learn to think fast in every crazy situation life throws at them. This comical show about everyday experiences and modern mainstream trends that relate currently is always funny to watch.
- Honorable Mentions
-
This is a list of my honorable mentions, sitcoms that I have not yet seen, but are definitely on my list to watch next. How I Met Your Mother is about friends trying to find love in New York City and would probably be at the top of my list. Other shows I really want to watch are Big Bang Theory, Superstore, and Community, since I have seen a lot of people enjoying the shows, as well as clips on TikTok.
Hopefully, some of these sitcoms are entertaining and funny enough to get your mind off midterms and studying!
