My Love For Target: Why Us Girls Find So Much Joy In This Store

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

The bright lights when you walk in, Starbucks to your left or right. Beauty displays light up right in front of you with the supplement and vitamin section not too far away. This is the familiar homely feeling of walking into your neighborhood Target. I would argue, one of the best feelings in the world. I can honestly say that there are weeks when I head into Target daily, not necessarily to buy anything, but more so for the environment. I find comfort in doing this. Target is bright, clean, spacious, and very attractive to the eye. It is also a great place to walk around when I need to close my Apple Watch fitness rings. Something about it draws me in and keeps me coming back.

This could be because Target essentially has everything — cute jewelry, food, cute clothes, makeup, skincare, hair products, and even Squishmallows. It is a one-stop shop for anything I could need or want, and it tends to be the same for most young women. People can go in, with or without friends, browse for as long as they want, grab a drink (I prefer Celsius) from the fridge at checkout, and leave without ever having to talk to a worker. They can completely and totally be in their own little world. Target must know this too, as pretty much anything that goes viral on TikTok is either carried there or they have created a dupe of it. Not to mention, with the addition of mini-Ulta Beauty stores inside of Target, it has become a one-stop shop for most products that we ladies need, mostly at affordable prices.

To some degree, I wonder if it is considered a generational thing to find comfort in browsing around at Target. I frequently see sweet TikToks of young moms talking about how they cannot wait to go on Target trips with their daughters when they grow up a little more. Something about going shopping with a parent seems rather innate in our culture and always has been, so Target is the perfect forum for this to occur. It is a relaxing, productive adventure for anyone to participate in. This may all sound slightly superficial, and to some degree it is, but there is no reason to deny the sheer bliss of walking into your local Target! With all the life challenges we all face every day, it is perfectly understandable how this place has become an outlet for so many. I know my Target trips are definitely here to stay!
