James Corden’s Late Late Show Is Coming to an End: Here Are Some of Its Best Moments

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

In March 2015, James Corden took over the Late-Late franchise from host Craig Ferguson. He went on to host the show for eight years until his recent decision to part ways with it. In interviews, he has expressed his need to return home and prioritize time for his family. Although this news may be sad to his dedicated fans, there are many joyful, memorable moments Corden, his team, and guest celebrities have given us. Here are just a few.

One direction tattoo roulette

If you were a Directioner like me then this video is nothing new to you. In December 2015, the remaining four members of the boy band, Liam, Niall, Louis, and Harry, all tested their luck on Corden’s new game called Tattoo Roulette. The boys each picked a mysterious red box and took turns opening them to find the word “SAFE” or “TATTOO.” Of course, Harry ended up being the one who got the one box everyone was avoiding. He got the “Late Late” logo tattooed on his arm. This show appearance was one of the band’s last appearances before their “hiatus” at the end of 2015.

Harry Styles and Kendall Jenner play spill your guts or fill your guts

This one doesn’t include James, however, it does include two very famous exes. On a night that Harry was hosting the show for James, Kendall Jenner was invited on to play the infamous “Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts” with Styles. The game includes a spinning table with quite unappetizing foods. The player is asked a question and if they can’t/won’t answer it, they have to eat the food the other player chose for them. Having only ever seen their relationship through paparazzi photos, this was a refreshing watch!

Broadway carpool karaoke

It is hard to find someone who is a stranger to the famous “Carpool Karaoke.” It started with Mariah Carey and then took on a life of its own on the show. However, if you are a musical fan then one specific episode might stick out to you. In honor of Corden hosting the Tony Awards in 2016, he invited Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Audra McDonald, and Jane Krakowski to help him get to work. It was a beautiful ride full of Broadway ballads that any musical theater fan would appreciate.

Team u.s.a. vs. team u.k. — Dodgeball

The male team U.K. goes up against an all-female team U.S.A. in a game of dodgeball. The teams consist of notable faces such as Harry Styles, Benedict Cumberbatch, Michelle Obama, Mila Kunis, and Melissa McCarthy. In this head-to-head game, the teams face one another in an intense game of dodgeball leaving us with a combination of people we would have never expected and plenty of laughs.

Crosswalk the Musical: frozen

The Crosswalk Musicals are another very notable segment on the show. In the past they have garnered criticism for being real, meaning they actually do perform during red lights. This is not just any performance either. This is an entire production with costume changes, dancers, props, and anything else you can imagine. In this particular one Corden, along with Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell, perform songs from the hit movie Frozen.

There have been very mixed emotions around the Late Late Show and James Corden for several years. However, no matter your opinion of him it is hard to deny that at least one of his segments has made you laugh.
