How to Romanticize Your Life for Fall Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

It’s fall season…the crisp air, the falling leaves, the Halloween spirit, and everything else that makes the autumn season is here! However, with the weather becoming colder, the sun going down early, and if you live in Amherst, Massachusetts…the gloomy days of constant rain can really take a toll on some people. Do not fret because I have a list of ways you can romanticize your life for this fall season!

Play with the Leaves

I know this is a childish thing to do…but hear me out! Remember the days of being little and jumping into a pile of leaves with friends and family? If I remember correctly, it was a very fun thing to do! Doing activities that your younger self liked can really heal your inner child, and could possibly bring out a happy, nostalgic feeling that you might need this fall season. Plus, playing with the leaves could be a cute photoshoot with friends!

Make Pumpkin Pie

Hmmm…nothing says autumn without pumpkins! Baking a pumpkin pie or anything pumpkin can be a relaxing way to cool off, and you can enjoy a delicious sweet at the end. You can also share it with friends, family, or at a gathering!

Host a Halloween Movie Night

Hosting a movie night with friends is a fun activity for a night in! But a Halloween theme?! There’s Hocus Pocus (1993), Scream (1996), The Addams Family (1991), Halloween (1978), and many other classics to choose from to watch with friends. The feeling of adrenaline and anticipation as you wait for the jump scare can make a thrilling night…

Read a book & light a candle

Getting lost in a book with a fall-scented candle burning beside you is one of the homiest feeling ever! A good plot to keep you anticipating for more and characters to fall in love with while having a cinnamon scent under your nose will give you so much joy. I recommend a thriller, mystery book by Alex Michaelides called The Silent Patient for your fall reading.

Do Halloween Activities

Go to a haunted house, go trick-or-treating, go to a pumpkin patch…the Halloween spirit is waiting for you! The spooky vibes during Halloween are definitely unmatched. I recommend going to a Halloween fair and trying out the apple bobbing contest or hay rides!

Dress up for Halloween

Halloween is the best for dressing up, why? Because you can be anything you want and go all out! It’s much more fun getting ready with friends and taking pictures together. It’s even better if there are matching costumes involved. I suggest a 1970s disco theme for a Halloween costume!

Splurge On Candy

Who doesn’t love to eat a bunch of candy from time to time? It’s especially the perfect time for fall because of Halloween. Don’t be afraid to treat yourself with your favorite candy!

Watch Gilmore Girls

Last but not least, the most iconic fall show…Gilmore Girls (2000)! This show is a big fan favorite and still remains a popular show after more than 20 years. This show definitely gives off fall vibes, so you should watch or even rewatch for this year. Get a cup of coffee and enjoy the life of Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, the iconic mother-daughter duo.

I hope these suggestions make your 2022 fall season just a little bit better! There are definitely more activities to do, so don’t be afraid to try new things!
