We have all been there. That sickening alarm sounds letting you know that the time has come to crawl out of bed and fix your frizz before class. Nine times out of ten sleep beats glowing skin and polished locks. What if I told you you could catch the extra Z’s AND the fast hair and make-up that will get you to the bus stop with time to kill? Well, you’re in luck….

Hairography
There are some pre-bed rituals that can bless you with the extra minutes that we all need in the morning.

Showering
in the morning can make you feel refreshed, but if you’re in a rush, sudsing up at night is the way to go. Just before you’re ready to get out of the shower turn the water from HOT to COLD and quickly blast your hair (and face) with the chilled water. It sounds unpleasant, but the cold water will seal your hair cuticle, locking in the moisture and preventing those kinks that tossing and turning can cause.

*Running the water over your face will close up your pores making any pimples that are thinking of gracing your presence overnight obsolete. This will also save your face from concealer overkill the next morning.

Assuming you blow-dry your hair post-shower, spray your damp hair with product containing heat protection. I prefer John Frieda’s 3-Day Straight. It has both heat protection and keratin protein that block out frizz and lock in gloss for several days, a cheaper alternative to the Brazilian blowouts that use the same ingredient!

If you don’t blow-dry, scrunch in a leave in conditioner but only from mid-hair down. If you get too close to the root you could get the dreaded greasy look. Both Aussie and L’Oreal make great and inexpensive leave-ins. Tie your hair in a loose bun at the nape of your neck and forget about worrying about your mane come sunrise.

Put your face on!
Now, when you wake up there are a couple of make-up tricks that will get you out the door in a hot minute.

First, smooth on a primer. I like That Gal by Benefit because the pink tones make your skin glow like you’ve just had the best facial of your life. Put a dime-sized amount in the palm of your hand and smooth in circles on the apples of your cheeks, and down the bridge of your nose.

Next, put very little concealer in the spots you find it necessary. Keep in mind we usually use much more than is actually required and it is both needless and time-consuming. Lightly dust powder on your t-zone with a fan brush to set your concealer. The combination with your primer will eliminate foundation from your A.M. routine. It’s a double whammy!

Blend a coral blush on the apples of your cheeks sweeping towards your temples. NARS makes a wonderful blush that works for all skin types called Orgasm. This will wake up your skin and make you look like you were born to rise before 10 am.

Next, use a soft medium sized eyeshadow brush to apply a shimmering nude shadow to your lids. Urban Decay shadows in Sin or Sell Out work perfectly but any brand will work. Make sure to focus the shimmer on the inner corners of yours eyes. This technique will open up your eyes and help you to look alert no matter what you were up to the night before.

Finally, curl your lashes and apply one coat of your favorite mascara. For daytime, only a single coat is needed and using an eyelash curler will make your eyes look bigger and better!

So beauties, now when that cursed alarm clock starts screaming at you, you can feel free to roll over and gift yourself those 10 necessary minutes!
