Having a Rough 2020? Here are 7 Products That Uplifted Mine

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

I think everyone can agree that 2020 has been quite a wild year. However, being stuck in quarantine gave me a really good excuse to do some online shopping. Here are eight products that I have fallen in love with this year in quarantine!

Harry Potter x Ulta Beauty Lip Gloss

Harry Potter and makeup? I can’t think of a better combination! Ulta Beauty collaborated with the magical film franchise to release a makeup collection this past summer and I was able to get a few of the products. While I loved the Hufflepuff Eyeshadow pallete and Lip Crayons, my absolute favorite was the Lip Gloss.

I got it in the Platform 9 3/4 shade, which is a peach shimmer. Not only is the packaging stunning, but the gloss is amazing too! It’s not sticky at all and is super long-wearing, which has made it become one of my go to glosses. For only $10, you should defintely get one of the magical shades for yourself!

ColourPop Truly Madly Deeply Pressed Eyeshadow Palette

ColourPop eyeshadows are my absolute favorite. The pigmentation and longwearing formula simply can’t be beat. Once I spotted this palette on Ulta’s website, I just knew I had to have it.

All the shades are gorgeous and provide you tons of options for different looks; from natural to pink girly glam! The pressed glitters are also a fun touch to any night out look! If the colors in this palette speak to you, check it out! But if not, give Colourpop’s other palettes and products a look! Any of them will be a great addition to your makeup collection or a great holiday gift!

Benefit Cosmetics Cookie Highlighter

Every girl needs a highlighter to get her glow on. Look no further than this one from Benefit! I fell in love with it after swatching it in Sephora a couple years ago when it was part of a larger palette. I knew I had to get it one day and lucky for me last year Benefit decided to release it as a single! After scooping it up in March, I can assure you it’s an amazing product.

Not only is it a stunning and soft highlighter, but I love to use it in the corners of my eyes to brighten them up. The packaging is also super convinent to take on the go, since the brush is included and sits right inside. While the golden pearl shade might be a little overpowering for some, you can blend it out to get the look you desire quite easily. I highly reccomend this if you’re looking to shimmer and shine the rest of 2020!

Ariana Grande Thank U Next Perfume

As an Ariana fan with nearly all her perfumes, every scent is amazing. But throughout 2020, this has been the one I’m drawn to daily. With notes of white pear, creme de coconut, velvet musk and more, it is the perfect balance of being both sensual and feminine. It also lasts for a long time too, which is always something to look for when investing in a perfume. If you know any Ari fans in your life, Ulta also has the cutest gift set for the holidays! Bottom line though, you should stop by an Ulta store to test it out this perfume yourself. The scent is truly amazing and I highly doubt you won’t want it afterwards.

Bath and Body Works Aromatherapy Moisturizing Body Wash

Need to relieve some stress? Well Bath and Body Works has you covered. Their Aromatherapy Skin Care line is perfect for relaxing in the shower or bath after a long day.

The Moisturizing Body Wash is my favorite, especially in the Lavender Vanilla scent. Since I shower at night, I find it is the perfect way to both destress and get ready to sleep.

If that doesn’t sound like a scent you would like though, they also have it in Eucalyptus Spearmint. Whichever you choose, it’s great to add some extra moisture to your skin as we enter the cold winter months! If you’re at the mall doing some holiday shopping or looking on their website, be sure to add it to your cart!

Essential Oil Diffuser

I honestly don’t think I could have survived this year without my diffuser. It really helps me relax and destress as I fall asleep. I put lavender oil in mine and letting the scent fill up my room is now part of my nightly routine! The one I have also has lights that change colors and a built in timer, which is perfect so it’s not on all night long.

I found mine at TJ Maxx, which is actually a great place to find both the diffusers and the oils to go with them for a good price. But other stores have great options as well, like this one from Target! If you’ve been having lots of anxiety and stress, especially at night, try a diffuser to help you get a better night’s sleep!

Privé Revaux Blue Light Glasses

With most classes being remote this semester, lots of students are starting to experience signs of blue light sensitivity. I actually started getting headaches from it over the summer during my remote internship, so I invested in a pair of these glasses and it has been so worth it!

While their are a lot on Amazon, some have been proven not to truly be affective. Once I stumbled upon the glasses brand Privé Revaux and saw they had blue light one’s, I knew I had to get a pair for myself.

They have so many choices on the website, but I chose a frame called The Modern, which was made in collaboration with singer Dove Cameron. That frame in particular comes in a variety of colors, but I chose Crystal/Clear and love it! I’ve recieved lots of complements on them during my Zoom meetings and my headaches have gone away.

These glasses might be a little on the pricer side, but they have sales pretty often so keep an eye out for them! Each pair also comes with a collabsable case and cleaning cloth, which further adds to the value of them. If you are experiencing any negative affects from blue light this semester, get a pair of these, especially before you’re pulling all nighters during finals week!

Hopefully if you purchase any of these products they will brighten up your 2020. I know they certainly have for me! Sending lots of positive vibes your way!
