A GIF Story: HBO Girls Respond to Sexist Rush Limbaugh

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

If you’re unfamiliar with Rush Limbaugh – you may be living in what you’ve understood to be a “modern age.” The kind where women have rights and are viewed as… people? Well, Collegiettes, unfortunately it is time you learn that there are still advocates out there – conservative radio talk show hosts, to be exact – of explicit sexism.

On his radio talk show, “The Rush Limbaugh Show,” this regressivist (can I trademark that?) spews out racist, sexist, and all-around discriminatory remarks on subjects that vary anywhere between Beyoncé and the Pope. He’s said to have nearly 20 million listeners, (a phantasmagoric number, according to The Huffington Post), all of whom we can only hope tune in for a good laugh. All politics aside, the not-so-insightful words of Rush Limbaugh over the years have been horrifying and are simply not okay. We think our favorite characters from Girls would agree:

“Colleges have been chickified. Men aren’t showing up in as many numbers as they used to… This is what we have done to boys and men. The feminists/feminazis have been working for years to this end: advance women by diminishing men.”
 – Rush Limbaugh, January 19, 2010, The Rush Limbaugh Show

“I’ll tell you, you women. Why don’t you just make it official, put on some burkas and I’ll guaran-damn-tee you nobody’ll touch you. You put on a burka, and everybody’ll leave you alone if that’s what you want.”
 – Rush Limbaugh,  November 8, 2011, The Rush Limbaugh Show

“I wonder: Why is it that Anthony Weiner turns out to be the kind of guy he is? How does that happen?…What kinda women has Anthony Weiner been around his whole life? He has been around a bunch of these kinds of women who have been attacking testosterone, who have been attacking traditional male roles.” – Rush Limbaugh, 2011, The Rush Limbaugh Show

“Feminism was established to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream.”
- Rush Limbaugh, June 9, 2011, The Rush Limbaugh Show

“Women should not be allowed on juries where the accused is a stud.”
- Rush Limbaugh, 1994

“Feminism is what I oppose. Feminism has led women astray. I love the women’s movement — especially when walking behind it.”
 – Rush Limbaugh, February 3, 2010, Fox News’ Fox & Friends

“Beyoncé’s now saying, go ahead and put up with it…The advice to these women…Put up with it now. Bow down, bitches. Because why? She got married. She married a rich guy. She now understands. She now understands it’s worth it to bow down, so she’s passing on this advice.” – Rush Limbaugh, March 20, 2013, The Rush Limbaugh Show

Hey Rush, you can keep flooding the air waves with your deep intellect. Us feminazis will keep trying our best to access the mainstream,”chickifying” colleges and bowing down to the rich men we rely so heavily on. And if you aren’t quite bright enough to detect sarcasm, I’ll let Shosh translate:
