The Five Stages of Trying to Connect to Eduroam

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

If you’re like hundreds (though let’s be honest, more like thousands) of other UMass students, you’ve probably had some problems with a little old thing called eduroam. Let’s examine the thought process behind every attempt to connect…

1. Optimism

What can be so hard about setting up wifi? You do it all the time everywhere you go.

2. Denial

There’s definitely a reason it’s denying you. You clearly typed in the wrong password…three different times.

3. Frustration

Now this is getting annoying and it’s cutting into all those Her Campus articles you could be reading.

You know your password is right. Why won’t eduroam just accept it?

You need to text all your friends about this and confirm that it’s not just you.

4. Success

Suddenly eduroam decides to take pity on you and you’re connected to life again.

5. Repeat

And just as quickly, eduroam decides your sacrifice wasn’t worthy and that you must spend another thirty minutes trying to connect.

Of course, then you remember that you still have to connect your other devices…

It’s a never ending tale of frustration and resentment, but just remember that you’re not alone.

But never forget: eduroam doesn’t care if you have a Moodle assignment to upload in fifteen minutes…
