Get ready for the Spring Concert at UMass Amherst!! Every spring semester, the University Programming Council (UPC) hosts a concert for people to listen to their favorite artist live. In the past, UPC has had Jack Harlow, Don Toliver, Flo Rida, Steve Aoki, and so many more cool artists performing at UMass. This year, UPC is bringing Tinashe as their Headliner on May 3rd! I know students at UMass love to get their 2 On.
Why You Should Go
The spring concert is a great way to end the school year with a bang. It gives a chance for students at UMass, the Five Colleges, and the general public to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience to see a talented artist perform at such an affordable price. It is also a great way to de-stress with finals coming around, and who wouldn’t want a little fun before it gets serious, am I right? It is a great way to have fun with friends, and if you are not doing anything that weekend, it is the best time to party with your close circle, potential friends, and with the performers themselves.
I can vouch that any spring concert will give you that euphoric feeling of inclusion, togetherness, and excitement. When I went to UPC’s Spring Concert 2024 with BIA and Steve Aoki as opener and Flo Rida as their headliner, I did not know what to expect. I’ve never been to a concert in my life, so I just assumed it would be the typical experience you see in the media. I will say that it was the best first concert to attend! My energy was lifted the minute the concert started, and it didn’t go down until a couple of days later. I could not believe I was able to experience such an opportunity, and I was forever grateful that I decided to go, despite my busy schedule. After that concert, I realized the pictures or videos you see online of a concert cannot capture how you feel and what you experience when you’re actually there. It felt unreal, like I was in a dream, and I did not want it to end. I was constantly jumping, screaming, and laughing! The energy was also so positive, everyone just wanted a good time and to listen to some good tunes. I can ensure that Tinashe’s concert will give you the exact same feeling.
What To Expect?
Well…we cannot forget the student openers who won UPC’s UMass Got Talent Showcase, UMass Altitude! They are a dance-based organization at UMass Amherst whose goals are to spread the positive aspects of dance, as well as explore varying genres of dance within the Five Colleges and the greater Boston Area. They will be the student openers for this year’s Spring Concert! This gives them a chance to perform on a bigger platform and show their organization’s amazing talent to a bigger audience. I’ve seen them perform at many UMass events in the past, and I’m always blown away by their moves and look forward to seeing them every single time. If you would like to learn more about them, their Instagram handle is @umassaltitude. I am super excited to see them perform this year!
Another exciting opener is… TEEZO TOUCHDOWN!!! He is a rapper and singer most known for his feature on Tyler, the Creator’s album, CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST, in the song “RUNITUP”. He is also known for his unique sense of style and his alternative music. After knowing he would be the opener, I just had to listen to his songs and features! My personal favorite is his feature on Travis Scott’s “MODERN JAM”. I will say he is a very creative “fresh breath of air” artist. I believe he will continue to do even bigger things in the future. If you would like to see what he is like and keep updates with him, his Instagram handle is @teezotouchdown.
Of course, the main performer, Tinashe, will be the center of the Spring Concert! I am extremely excited as I’ve been listening to her music since I was 9 years old. My first song I’ve ever heard from her is “2 On” from her album Aquarius. It’s still my personal favorite, but my second would be “Perfect Crime” from her album Songs For You. For those who do not know, Tinashe is a multi-platform certified R&B singer, writer, and dancer.
She is known for her incredible, captivating stage presence and her ability to get the crowd hyped! From videos I’ve seen of her 2024 Coachella performance, she definitely knows how to work a crowd and give people a good time. It would be such a missed opportunity not to see her perform live, because regardless of whether you know her music well or not, she is going to make your concert experience lively and unforgettable!
This beautiful blend of R&B, Hip-Hop, and alternative styles from all the performers at this year’s Spring Concert is going to be eventful and fun to be a part of.
