Artist Profile: Andreas Moe

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

Meet Swedish singer/songwriter Andreas Moe

The 27-year-old musician has released several EPs, spent quite a bit of time touring throughout Europe and has even opened for some acts that you’ve definitely heard of. There is no doubt that you’ll be hearing his name all over the U.S. soon. We were lucky enough to chat with Andreas, so check it out and you’ll be ahead of the game.

HC: Can you tell us a bit about how you got started in the industry?

AM: I started off as a session guitarist for other artists. I never really realized that you could express your feelings musically in other ways than with guitar solos. But I started singing and writing music after hearing the music of John Mayer and Jeff Buckley, and not long after that I released my first EP Collecting Sunlight in 2011.

HC: Who would you say your main influences are?

AM: I have listened to all kinds of music. When I wrote my first EP I was obsessed with Kanye West, John Mayer and Swedish singer Robyn. At the moment, I get inspired by listening to guitar-driven music like Paul Simon, Willy Mason, Joni Mitchell, etc. It’s changing constantly, but the heroes stay there forever.

HC: Do you have a favorite gig?

AM: Oh yes, I do! I supported John Mayer at the O2 in London and at the Ericsson Globe in my hometown of Stockholm. That was insane. He’s literally the reason I bought my first real acoustic guitar. To then share the same stage with him a couple of years later was absolutely surreal.

HC: Who would your dream collaboration be with?

AM: At the moment, my dream would be to work with Joni Mitchell. Her voice and her music inspire me in many ways and it would be so cool to just sit in the same room and create something together.

HC: What’s your favorite part of playing live?

AM: The feeling when you’re 30 seconds into your first song and all your worries and thoughts just disappear. It’s an indescribable feeling: looking up, seeing all these people smiling and having a good time to your music.

HC: Is there a possibility we’ll see you in America anytime soon? (*crosses fingers*)

AM: Yes! I’m working on it! That has always been a dream, to take my music over the water to America. I know this year is the year!

HC: What is one venue you dream of playing at?

AM: Definitely Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado.

HC: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?

AM: I’ve already been many places with music but still there are many countries that I’d love to see. If I have to narrow them down to one, then I’d say Iceland.

HC: What’s one thing the world doesn’t know about you that you’d like them to know?

AM: I’m a Global Elite rank Counter Strike – Global Offensive player. Haha!
