Shots fired, round after round
Law and order falling down
Peace plunging to abyss
Death quickly dismissed
Across the globe, beyond the seas
Parents falling to their knees
Brothers, sisters, lovers cry
Safe in bed, so do I
Observed through a screen
What was once few and far between
Mournful the new norm
Violence, assault, outsiders conform
What if we are next?
Too soon to pay respects
Masses taken to public outcry
Yet actions are on standby
Waiting for a curing response
Older now, no nonchalance
Praying for peace
Maybe optimism we can persuade
Land of the Free
Home of the Brave
I don’t know about you
But I am afraid.
