A Personal Ranking of Boba in Amherst: Part Two

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

The next stop on our boba journey is LimeRed Teahouse. To be honest, I wasn’t very fond of this particular boba shop in the past. Before COVID times, I got one of their milk teas, and I remembered just not being satisfied with what I got. Ever since then, I was always hesitant to go there for my boba cravings, but I recently went there with a friend of mine to give it a second chance. I wanted to try one of their fruity teas since many of my friends have told me that those are their favorites. I ended up getting the Mango Classic Tea with 75% sweetness and regular boba.

I think I made the right decision to try that particular order. I was worried that it would taste too artificial and too sweet, but it ended up being the right amount of both without being overwhelming. The drink was almost refreshing; I could imagine myself having it for a long period of time without feeling the need to stop, which usually happens quite often for me when it comes to milk tea. It was the right amount of tangy with a tinge of sweetness, which made me understand why so many people love the fruity drinks at LimeRed.

The boba itself was pretty consistent with all the other boba I have had in the past. Nothing was particularly special about it. I was just glad that it was cooked properly, and it was a good chewy consistency. Maybe next time I should try the popping boba; I have this feeling that they would be pretty good with the fruit teas, especially since they are fruit-flavored as well.

I would absolutely come back to LimeRed for the fruity teas. I think I might have judged this boba shop too soon before giving their other options a try. Not only was the drink great, but their shop was very cute as well. The shop is decorated with a ton of murals of cartoon characters on the walls, which I feel made it much more of a welcoming place to just sit and have a good time with your friends. I also wanted to point out that they had paper boba straws as well, which I usually don’t see in other boba shops! The only downside of the tea shop is that they didn’t have any snack options except for macarons. Macarons are great, but it would be nice if they had some other savory options.

As of right now, I would go absolutely go to LimeRed over ViVi Bubble Tea, but we have one more boba shop to review before I make my final decision on which shop has the best boba in Amherst Center.
