Her Campus UMass Amherst is proud to be a sponsor of the 9th Annual Soul TV Fashion Show: Haus of Pop, on Friday April 11th at 8:00pm in the Student Union Ballroom. Haus of Pop will feature clothing from a variety of young designers, including the works of Cynthia Kyei-Akomeah of Coruscate Innovations.

“Sketching was something I had always done throughout my childhood up until high-school and I later realized that I wanted to bring those sketches to life, and that is how I began my business. Art has been a great part of my life and I’m excited to display that physically through my designs,” says Kyei-Akomeah.

Coruscate Innovations is a high-end US based clothing line that incorporates a variety of Ghanaian fabrics. The word “Coruscate” means bringing forth light, to shine or to sparkle. The brand is based on the biblical verse, Matthew 5:16, which states, “In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”Coruscate Innovations aims to empower women through unique fashionable items by infusing the rich culture of Ghana into a more modern style of clothing. We are “Draping LIGHT to Fashion” by creating wholesome clothing for the modern woman.
Sophisticated Glory line 2012
The brand was founded in June 2011, where founder and designer, Cynthia Kyei-Akomeah, decided to turn her sketches into physical pieces that could be worn and after successfully constructing clothing for herself, began to construct clothing for close friends while receiving great praise. Coruscate Innovations was launched in March 2012, where they participated in their first fashion show, “Heal the World” at Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester, Massachusetts.
A.S.U.B.A. Fashion Show 2012
Coruscate Innovations has participated in many other college fashion shows including the well-known A.S.U.B.A. 2012 Fashion show of University at Albany in Albany, New York and are in the process of being scheduled and invited to more shows for the remainder of the year.
