It’s that time of year when the spooky season is finally near! And with it, the ever-continuing dilemma of what to wear persists. When I was younger, it was hard enough to plan for just one costume, but now at college, it turns into a larger-than-life event – Halloweekend. It’s fun, over the top, and a staple of the year. But figuring out a unique costume for this, sometimes multiple, can be an incredibly stressful experience. Finding cute and unique costume ideas for groups is even more challenging. More people mean different opinions, and figuring out what to do is even more challenging. Having a group also means that you have to physically get a costume for everyone that they all like, a task that is way harder than it seems. I have found that the keys to group costumes are opportunities for people to express their individual tastes, themes that are interesting enough to excite everyone, and ideas that are flexible enough so that they are easy to recreate. Below, I have listed seven of my favorite group costumes that everyone is sure to love.
- ‘Pitch Perfect’
-
The Bellas in the final riff off spring have some of the most iconic costumes that have been seen in movies in this century. That may seem like a stretch, but I remain firm in this belief.Â
The costumes from this scene are perfect, as just as every one of The Bellas put a spin on their look, all of the people in your group can put a spin on their Bella’s look. Just stick to the general color palette and 2012 hot business casual and you will be golden- literally gold is one of the colors you wear.
- Pop Stars
-
This costume is perfect as it allows everyone to let their individual tastes shine through. For fans of Taylor, go as her in any era that speaks to you. For those who like more of the club classics, be Charli xcx. This costume is also great as it is more vibes-based, since most artists shift through multiple looks, which gives so much freedom to the costumes and makes it perfect for groups.Â
- Spice Girls
-
Now this is similar to the last option, as the Spice Girls are a pop girl group, but while the last idea had so much freedom, this is a perfect option because it gives a more specific look for each person. IÂ think this costume is also perfect for groups, because despite the fact that the Spice Girls are incredibly iconic, they aren’t so popular as a costume that this remains unique.Â
- Minions
-
There are many Minion costumes out there, but this is for a reason. Minions are an incredibly fun and easy costume, and the base of the costume is easy enough that everyone can put their own unique spin on it.
- ‘Shrek’
-
The movie Shrek is something that remains remarkable in every adaptation, from Broadway to film. It has persisted in its relevance. For this next adaptation, what about the perfect group costume?Â
This costume is perfect for groups as the Shrek movies feature nearly every fairytale character at some point, so it can be used for a large group costume. But it can also be used for a smaller group by focusing just on Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona.Â
- fairies
-
A costume that you can make as easy or as complex as your group desires. This costume is perfect for a group as everyone has their own fairies they grew up with. When I was younger, I was obsessed with Pixie Hollow Fairies, but the Winx Club fairies or the fairies from Sleeping Beauty are also super fun group costumes.Â
- Trisha paytas and Co.
-
This may seem a bit out there, but hear me out. This is the perfect group costume. It is relevant, fun, and just crazy enough that no one else will do it but not too crazy that people won’t get it.Â
For a smaller group, just go as Trisha’s babies, Aquaman, Elvis, and Malibu Barbie. A fun twist on this is taking these iconic baby names and going as the icons these kids were named after. For a larger group, just look into the Trisha cinematic universe, be Trisha herself- decked head to toe in pink, of course, have someone be Moses, maybe even include a rainbow Birkin if you need someone else. A fun costume that is so abstract that it gives everyone so much freedom.
Picking the perfect group costume is no easy feat. But as we move closer and closer to Halloweekend, I hope this list helps every group find their perfect costumes. The versatility, individuality, and fun of these costumes are bound to please any group this Halloween.
