Fall is here at UMass, whether it’s the leaves slowly changing from green to red, the air getting crisper and stronger, or the reoccurrence of Halloween candy in grocery stores. Finding songs to capture these emotions and feelings that fall brings can be difficult. Here are six songs that put these feelings into words, and immediately remind me of fall.

“We fell in love in October” – girl in red

A classic. This song screams fall vibes and I am here for it. A lot of Girl in Red songs give off fall vibes, but this song in particular is the blueprint. Even during summer and winter, I can listen to this song and immediately be brought back to my fall phase.

“La ritournelle (mr. dan’s magic wand mix)” – sébastien tellier

You may recognize this song from the TV show Gossip Girl, which is where I first discovered this masterpiece. This song is played in season one, episode nine, “Blair Waldorf Must Pie,” when a flashback is shown of Blair, Serena, and Nate spraying each other with water. This song has since consistently stayed at the top of my fall playlist.

“show me how” – men i trust

This song is the perfect song to be played while walking outside and admiring the beautiful fall foliage. Not only is the beat smooth and soothing, but the vocals flow so well in addition to the beat. Men I Trust’s songs have such a calming tone that feels so comforting and cozy, which in theory is what a lot of people expect fall to be – comforting and cozy.

“dark red” – steve lacy

Steve Lacy is a must when it comes to music that reminds me of fall. His chill, alternative take on music is so comforting and easy to listen to. I love his voice and how easy it is to listen to his music.

“stick season” – noah kahan

“Stick Season” is THE song of fall 2022. This new banger was just released around a month ago and is already listed as his most popular song. I cannot tell you the number of times my friends and I have screamed, “But it’s the season of the sticks.” This song is the epitome of fall and I guarantee you will feel that even with only one listen.

“beach baby” – bon iver

“Beach Baby” is more of a slow, sad take compared to the rest of these songs. This is essential because fall may trigger seasonal depression and the warning for winter, which is sometimes a season of loneliness. Bon Iver’s voice is so beautiful and comforting, and his music always makes me feel relaxed and relieved.

Fall is a very lovely transition from summer to winter. This may mean emotions running high and all over the place which is valid and normal. These songs help me to live in the moment and enjoy the beauty that fall surrounds us with.
