6 Lessons We Can Learn From Rom-Coms

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

Okay, collegiettes. We all love a good rom-com. But why exactly is that? Is it because it gives us the ability to fantasize about our own perfect future relationship? Is it because they give us hope to keep believing in fairy tales and happily-ever-afters? Or is it because they allow us to believe that all guys will eventually realize what (or who) has been in front of them the entire time?

We all love a feel-good movie where the girl ends up with the guy we’re rooting for and vice versa. Believe it or not, romantic comedies can teach women valuable lessons about men. Here are the top 6.

1. Men Always Fall in Love With Their Best Friend

So you’ve had a crush on your best guy friend for forever and a half but he’s never thought of you in that way. Try getting a new haircut or telling him that you’re getting married. It will help him realize his love for you and he’ll declare it before it’s too late. You’ll live happily-ever-after. I promise.

2. No Matter How Hard You Try To Get Away From Him, He’ll Always Come After You

It doesn’t matter if you run away to another state, or decide to travel to a different country.  A guy will always find a way to get to wherever you are so that he can finally profess his undying love for you. And you obviously won’t be able to resist.

3. You’ll Either Find Love in Unexpected Places or Right Under Your Nose

If you haven’t fallen in love with your best friend, then, chances are, you’ll find love in some unexpected place…like right outside of a building when you’re carrying tons of boxes that just so happen to fall. Your future lover will always be just a few feet away, ready to help you pick up the things you dropped. Don’t worry. There will be a connection.

4. No Matter What You Do, He’ll Always Forgive You

It doesn’t matter if you said something absolutely horrible to him last week, and it doesn’t matter if you got him fired from work. He’ll always forgive you and everything will always turn out perfect.

5. He Will Run Through An Airport For You

So you’re about to go on that trip to Paris that you’ve been planning for a while now, but your best friend/ex-boyfriend/hook-up just decided that he has feelings for you. Chances are, he’ll run through the airport looking for you just to tell you he loves you and that either A., you can’t leave him, or B., he’s coming with you!

6. He’ll Throw Rocks At Your Window

So you went out with a guy you like, but you’re still not sure how into it he was.  You thought you had a great connection, but you just don’t know. Don’t worry, he’ll totally show up outside your window at 2am in the morning to throw rocks at your window to wake you up so that you know he was thinking about you. It will only get better from there.

Happy dating, collegiettes!
