5 Things You Need To Do This Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

It’s officially October; the spookiest time of the year. The air is crisp, the leaves are turning color, cozy sweaters are making an appearance, Halloween is approaching, and the pumpkin spice takeover is finally here. It’s time to do all things fall and make the most out of this spooky season.

Pumpkin Carving/Painting

Carving pumpkins will definitely give you the spooky serotonin boost you need. Put a candle inside and turn the lights out to watch your designs glow and relive an iconic childhood memory. I highly recommend picking some from a pumpkin patch in order to experience the whole vibe.

Don’t like the mess or clean-up? Paint your pumpkins instead!

Haunted HOUSE/HAYRIDE

To really get in the spooky spirit, walk through a haunted house or go on a haunted hayride. Have you really honored the Halloween feel if you haven’t been spooked? If being frightened isn’t your forte, there are less intense haunted attractions to take part in. But for me personally: scarier = better.

Apple Picking

So how ’bout them apples? This activity is a must-do in the fall. Right now is prime apple-picking season, whether that be on a local farm or apple orchard. Not only is it nice to freshly pick and take home apples, but it is a fun experience to enjoy colorful trees and the cool air with friends.

Corn Maze

This fall version of an escape room will give you all the October feels. Exploring and getting lost in a corn maze with a buddy or some friends is the thrill you’re looking for. Plus, if you can find a haunted corn maze, that’s where the real adrenaline rush is.

spooky Movie Marathon

We all like to enjoy a night-in sometimes, and having a spooky movie marathon is the perfect, relaxing way to celebrate the Halloween spirit! Get some spooky snacks or bake some spooky-themed treats, and watch all the Halloween classics. If you haven’t watched Hocus Pocus or Halloweentown at least once this season, you’re doing it wrong.

May you have the spookiest of seasons this October!
