5 Runway Trends to Incorporate into Your Wardrobe This Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

As a general rule of thumb, when it comes to fashion trends spotted on the runway, one is considered to be an example, two is considered to be a fluke, and three or more is considered to be a trend. Often times, these trends are out-there in nature and can be hard to sport without feeling like you’re wearing an extravagant costume. The best thing about fashion, however, is that you can always draw inspiration from trends and dress it down to a street style level so that it can be incorporated into your every day wardrobe.

Layered Crop Tops

Instead of completely overhauling your wardrobe, an easy way to transition from a summer to fall is to incorporate the adorable crop tops you wore all summer long by layering them over a long-sleeve shirt.

Bejeweled Headbands

Looking to infuse some preppy-inspired style into your closet, but don’t want to look traditional? A bejeweled headband is a perfect way to do so, while adding a little bit of an effortless vibe to your outfit. As an added bonus, they help to keep pesky hairs out of your face and can even be a fun DIY project if you don’t want to go out and buy one, but still want to try out the trend.

Turtlenecks

The rise of the mock neck is being challenged this season by the reviving popularity of the classic turtleneck, as seen on the runway in both fine-knit and chunky styles. It’s a low-maintenance look that effortlessly matches with a skirt or pair of pants. If you’re looking to switch it up a bit, consider choosing one with an exaggerated neck or layering one underneath a dress to mix up the silhouette.

Oversized Pockets

If you’ve ever been faced with the same problem as I have, buying an article of clothing with pockets only to find that they’re barely big enough to hold a penny, the runway has got you covered this season. There’s an entire range of ornate pocket designs to choose from, from bejeweled, to fur-lined, to stretched all the way down the leg. If over-the-top pockets aren’t your niche, designers like Topshop feature coats with roomy-yet-minimalistic pockets for your space needs.

Pantsuits

If wearing skirts just isn’t your thing but you still want to look professional, a clean cut pantsuit has become a go-to for that little bit of extra edge. Show off your shoes with this season’s newest modification of the classic power suit: cropped trousers.
