5 Reasons Why Grandmas Are The Best

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

For those of us that are fortunate enough to have a grandmother around, we truly are a lucky bunch. While not every grandmother is the same, I think I can speak for most of us when I say that our grandmothers are essentially our best friends. Not convinced? Let me help:

1. She always has the best food.

The cliché image of a grandmother is a plump, sweet old woman holding a platter of steaming chocolate chip cookies. But even if cookies aren’t your grandmother’s expertise, you have to admit that everything always tastes better at her house. Whether it be something she baked herself, or something store-bought, there’s just something about grandma’s house that makes the food all the better.

2. She has some great life advice.

Grandma has seen it all. She’s dealt with school, love, raising kids, and everything in between. With many years under her belt, grandma will always have a life lesson to share.

3. She supports whatever you do.

When it seems like nobody has your back, grandma always will. Even if she disagrees, it will be politely, and she won’t make you feel bad about your decisions.

4. She spoils you.

Who doesn’t love the birthday cards from grandma that definitely have cash in them? Or what about on the holidays when she gets you anything and everything you could have imagined. But the best things are the little surprises like spur-of-the-moment lunch dates or “Just to say HI!” phone calls. Grandmas always know how to brighten your day.

5. She has the best stories about your mom/dad.

Perhaps the most fun thing about grandmas is the stories they have about your parents. From the embarrassing, to the naughty, to the straight up ridiculous tales about your mom or dad, Grandma remembers them all.

My point is, Collegiettes, don’t take your grandma for granted. She’s an awesome person, mentor, and friend.
