Pinterest may be the best thing that has ever happened to the internet. I could spend hours browsing recipes I will never attempt, pretending that I’m actually going to do the treadmill work-out that I just pinned, compiling my virtual dream closet, and planning my wedding – even though I’m not yet old enough to buy myself a drink. Sometimes, Pinterest provides the most brilliantly-life-changing ideas, but unfortunately, sometimes I find myself disappointed. Save yourself some time and skip these beauty DIYs that just plain failed…
1. The claim: “Pam to dry wet nails!” Spray your nails with some Pam non-stick cooking spray immediately after painting them. Wait about two minutes and wipe the Pam off to reveal your fresh (and dry) mani.
The reality: When you wipe off the Pam, the nail polish comes off with it. The result? A seriously unfortunate manicure.
2. The claim: “Beach waves with a flat iron!” Separate your hair into two braided sections. Twist the braids away from your face and run the straightener over the twist twice through for beachy waves.
The reality: This was the most unsuccessful attempt at curling my hair I have ever experienced. Sorry ladies, but it might be best to stick to the tried and true curling iron for those beachy waves.
3. The claim: “Mix cocoa powder and lotion for an easy self-tanner!” This is an all-natural alternative that is supposed to leave your skin glowing without all of the harsh chemicals found in store-bought varieties. Additionally it does not leave you with an orange looking tan.
The reality: This version of a sunless tan may not leave you orange but it does leave you streaky and a bit diseased looking. Probably not the look you were going for.
4. The claim: “DIY tasty lip gloss using just two ingredients!” Heat up Vaseline in a microwave-safe bowl and mix in a packet of Kool-Aid mix for your own easy and affordable lip gloss!
The reality: The Kool-aid does not fully dissolve in the Vaseline some of the time. It is kind of messy and it does not look that great when applied. My advice is to spend a little bit extra on a nice gloss!
Better luck pinning, collegiettes!
