With what seems like a million different streaming services and networks, we have plenty of new shows at our fingertips. It’s fun discovering new TV, watching it with friends, or having a good night-in to yourself. Now, however, I want to give a little shoutout to all the tried-and-true comfort shows. The series you can watch over and over again, the one you can always return to. Here are my favorites:

Grey’s Anatomy

This one is perfect for a girls’ night in. This drama centers around the personal and professional life of Dr. Meredith Grey, an aspiring surgeon, and her colleagues at Seattle Grace Hospital. While there are some super intense moments and a lot of heartbreak, these are characters we know, and love (most of the time), and you can always find an episode to match your mood. Bonus points if you find a “Grey’s Anatomy episode for when…” on Pinterest

Ncis

If you’re big into crime shows, I highly recommend NCIS. A classic criminal investigative drama, NCIS follows the same characters, Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs and his team of agents, medical examiner, and forensic scientist through each episode, which focuses on an isolated case. Perfect for watching all the way through or picking randomly! A classic, though slightly outdated, series with spunky characters. Plus, there are 19 seasons of it (although I recommend sticking to the first 10).

The OFfice

Need I say more? If you aren’t familiar, The Office is somewhat of a comical fictional documentary that follows the lives of Michael Scott, manager of the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company in Scranton, PA, and his staff. This one is a classic, and while some (or a lot) of the humor is incredibly outdated, it’s still a nice casual watch that most everyone will enjoy. Unfortunately, The Office moved off Netflix and onto Peacock last year, where plans start at $4.99/month with ads.

New girl

I love New Girl. Set in an LA loft where Jessica Day moves in with three male roommates she met online, following a breakup with her long-term boyfriend. This show is hilarious, and I relate to Jess on a personal level. Highly recommend watching with your mom or your girlfriends, or both. Very quirky humor, with a couple of good sex jokes sprinkled in.

Outlander

This one is a little less of a comfort show, mostly because the plot is pretty intense, but it is a personal favorite for me and my boyfriend and definitely binge-worthy. Following the story of Claire Randall, a nurse from 1945 who is unexpectedly swept through time 200 years into the past. Based on Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series, it is easy to fall in love with the characters, the story, and the fairytale nature of the Scottish Highlands in the 1740s. I highly recommend taking a peek at this show.

What are your favorite comfort shows? What is your go-to on a cozy night-in? I hope you got a couple of recommendations, or at least could appreciate the power of these series!
