40 Things to do When You’re Feeling Down

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

As much as we would all like to say that we are happy and joyful 24/7, sometimes you get in a funk and you just don’t know why. So, Collegiettes, cheer up! College is way too short to be in a bad mood. Instead, here are 40 things to do when you’re feeling down:

1. Wake up early and go for a run. No matter how much you hate running, I promise you will feel good after.

2. Make yourself a big, fancy, healthy breakfast.

3. Take a long, hot shower.

4. Put aside time to take care of yourself.

5. Listen to your favorite music really loud.

6. Dance like a fool.

7. No matter what you’re doing later that day, get dressed and put yourself together.

8. Smile at strangers.

9. Do a good deed. You could be changing someone’s bad day into a good one.

10. Go for a long walk, alone, without music.

11. Stop thinking about him.

12. Go to lunch with your best friend(s).

13. Play throwback music in the car with your friends.

14. Don’t Snapchat it; just enjoy it.

15. Write down your blessings.

16. Go shopping and splurge on something you’ve wanted for so long.

17. Don’t feel guilty about treating yourself.

18. Play with a puppy.

19. Jump in a puddle.

20. Do something spontaneous.

21. Act childish.

22. Scream really loudly.

23. Vent to someone you can trust.

24. Cry if you need to but then wipe it off and go back to being awesome.

25. Sit down with your family and take a walk down memory lane.

26. Tell your family members that you love them.

27. Think.

28. Drive.

29. Eat that donut, because we both know you’ll be thinking about it the rest of the day.

30. Be confident.

31. Learn something new.

32. Go up and talk to that cute guy at the gym (because why not).

33. Take a bubble bath.

34. Get in your comfiest sweatpants, comfiest sweatshirt and some fuzzy socks.

35. Light a candle.

36. Put on a facial mask.

37. Turn off your phone.

38. Eat your favorite dessert and lay in bed watching Gilmore Girls.

39. Remember how lucky you are.

40. Get a good night’s sleep, wake up and make tomorrow just as good, if not better, than today.

Have a beautiful day.
