What Horror Movie You Should Watch This Halloween, Based On Your Zodiac Sign

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Maine chapter.

With the week of Halloween upon us, the 31st falling on a Saturday, and all while we’re still living in a pandemic, I thought of there’s no better time to indulge in two of my guilty pleasures – horror movies and astrology. So, if you wanna celebrate Halloween with a scary movie but don’t know what to watch, let your star sign decide!

Aries – Saw series

Aries, you are way too impatient to sit through a slow-burn. You need a movie that will keep you entertained the whole time – whether that be through jump scares, gore, or continuous plot twists. Saw (and the seven other movies in the franchise) is a balls-to-the-wall, extremely graphic horror movie with just enough plot to give context. If Aries wants to get their blood pumping, I would suggest watching.

Taurus – Hush

Taurus, you’re the practical one of the zodiac. Ghosts, vampires, and demons don’t get to you because they’re all fictitious – you see right through them. What you need is something real – or at least plausible – to get you spooked. I’m speaking for myself and my Taurus rising here, but when I watched this movie I was yelling in suspense the whole time.

Gemini – Us

Gemini, the twins of the zodiac! I know you get a lot of flack, Gemini, for being perceived as two-faced, but they just don’t know you’re complex! There are many sides to you, so movies about evil twins or the duality of humans speak to you. Jordan Peele captures both of these ideas in Us, so you’ll be sure to get something from watching.

Cancer – The Babadook

Cancer, psychological thrillers were made for you. The Babadook makes you put your emotions and intuitiveness where your mouth is, all while pulling at your signature maternal heartstrings. Immerse yourself in the metaphors within the film, and try not to cry at the end, Cancer!

Leo – Birdbox

Leo, full of ambition and pride, you’re a natural leader. You’re intense and passionate, which is why you’d be the perfect person to watch Birdbox. If you missed the hype this movie created when it was released, I’m sure you’ll get a kick out of saying what you would do if you were each character.

Virgo – Midsommar

Virgo, you’re a perfectionist who craves organization, tidiness, and presentability. The opposite of this – losing or not having control over yourself and your surroundings, is probably the thing that makes your skin crawl the most. This film is almost like a gory-psychological thriller, so if you’re in the mood to get unnerved to the fullest, Virgo, I present to you Midsommar.

Libra – Final Destination

Libra, always day-dreaming and going with the flow, you are a master of compromise. You need multiple outlets of creativity as well as multiple options for almost everything in your life. But, imagine if none of those options mattered. The idea of being unable to escape your fate might be one of your fears, Libra, and Final Destination explores this idea in a very graphic way.

Scorpio – Kill Bill

Scorpio, some say you’re the most intimidating of the zodiac, which is probably due to how much hell you bring to anyone who crosses you. To indulge in your love of revenge, Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill will be sure to get even the most somber or stone-cold of Scorpios amped up. And, although it’s technically not classified as a horror movie, the sheer amount of gore in it makes it Halloween-y enough for me.

Sagittarius – The Silence of the Lambs

Sagittarius, you’re known for your desire to explore and your insane amounts of empathy. This adventurous spirit linked with your ability to put yourself in others’ shoes makes you interested in exploring not only physical landscapes but mental ones as well, whether it be your mind or someone else’s. The Silence of the Lambs allows viewers to explore the mind of a serial killer/cannibal who helps an FBI agent catch another killer – and I know your morbid curiosity couldn’t resist that, Sagittarius.

Capricorn – The Purge

Capricorn, you’re hard-working with an eye for perfection, but what do these qualities come with? You’re a stickler for the rules. The thought of not being in control or not having guidelines to follow might already be enough to make you spiral, Capricorn, but imagine complete chaos. The Purge asks what would happen if all crime was legal nationwide for 24 hours, which is enough to leave a Capricorn traumatized.

Aquarius – Insidious

Aquarius, you are the sign that keeps everyone on their toes. Constantly evolving and never letting anyone pin you down, you are forever trying to better yourself and others. Your strong sense of empathy makes you want to help everyone around you, which is why Insidious will make you want to scream. Having to watch parents endure their child’s silent suffering without being able to help will be more than enough to give an Aquarius chills.

Pisces – The Shallows

Pisces, with your ruling planet as Neptune and your animal being the fish, you are the embodiment of what it means to be a water sign. With that calling to the sea paired with the water-sign signature creative imagination and emotion, what lurks beneath the surface might frighten you, Pisces. When you’re swimming, do you ever imagine what might be swimming just below your feet? If so, The Shallows with Blake Lively might be the perfect addition to your horror movie marathon.

Although these are all speculation and movies I chose, I hope I can recommend your new favorite horror movie based on what your zodiac sign says about you! It would be a disservice to my last article about astrology not to say that you don’t only need to look at your sun sign, but seeing what movie your moon and rising sign received could give you a perfectly-curated horror movie marathon to represent all aspects of your main three astrological placements! Happy Halloween!
