Living Gluten Free in College

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Maine chapter.

Living at college with a gluten intolerance is easy. Yes, easy!

Upon learning about my gluten-free diet (for both medical and health reasons), many of my friends have said “oh gosh, that must suck!” No really guys, gluten free is so easy! Promise.

So maybe gluten is in a lot of foods, but I don’t miss those foods at all. I can still eat breads, crackers, desserts, and yes I can drink beer too! (Gluten is sneaky and beer is one place many people wouldn’t think to look for it). The good news is, almost every gluten filled food you can think of has a close substitute.

Some local favorites, here at UMaine, including the Verve, Harvest Moon Deli, and Fam Dog have a few gluten free options and salads to meet everyone’s needs!

For some inspiration and ideas incase you are gluten free or just want to test it out, here are some tasty foods and recipes that won’t disappoint. See for yourself, gluten free living is a yummy living!
