We all know how brutal the walk from the MCA to classes is, especially with the wind blowing so hard you can barely see. Love it. Aside from wearing a snow suit, a la the little boy from A Christmas Story, there are winter accessories that will keep you both warm and stylish.
Â
Infinity Scarf. I’m a huge fan of the infinity scarf because they put an expected twist on the scarf. Huge knit wool ones are great because you can wear them a variety of ways, such as long, which keeps not only your neck, but sternum warm too, or wrapped a few times around your neck, which can keep your neck and mouth warm. I have a black one from PacSun that I can’t stop wearing. Infinity scarves also just scream “cool.”

Boot Socks. Because this article is mainly about how to stay warm, I’ll address how warm they are first, but it’s a toss up, because the real highlight of boot socks is that they’re just so freaking cute! I love boot socks that peek out the top of boots, or thigh-high versions, which you wear pulled over your knees. Especially when wearing tights, they keep you warm in these cold winter months. Now, onto more important things. Boot socks are my favorite accessory of the winter. They add dimension to any outfit; an added layer of interest. They work well with a variety of outfits, because they don’t distract from the outfit, but complement it in a subtle way. Try wearing them with a shorter dress or skirt, black tights, short boots, and wool boot socks pulled over your knees. Tres chic!

Beanies. I’m on a grunge, combat-boot wearing, kick lately, but I love when girls wear borrowed-from-the-boys beanies. Beanies look great in dark, neutral colors, like grays or blacks, and slightly off the back of your head. This hipster look is super casual, and laid back. Topshop makes some great beanies, but the beauty of this item is that you can get a plain men’s hat from virtually any store, and make it work.

Glittens. I live and die by my glittens; I think they are one of the best inventions since the cell phone. Glittens are great because they’re so functional. Want to text, but too cold to take your gloves off, even for a minute? Then, my friends, glittens are for you. Pull back the mitten part, and the tips of your fingers are exposed, making texting readily accessible. J.Crew has great glittens every season, in lots of colors and patterns. Make sure you get a pair with a hole on the thumbs, because as we all know, your thumbs play a crucial role in sending those bbms at a lightening-fast speed.

Since we go to school in the arctic, aka Orono, Maine, it’s important that we stay warm in the never ending winter months. But, as any Collegiette know, looking cute is a must. These winter weather accessories fulfill both requirements, making them a must for any UMaine girl!
