When we think about going green or being more environmentally conscious, often we don’t think of our beauty routine. Something I’ve been hearing more recently though, is the idea of choosing products with better ingredients!  Personally, I’ve been trying to avoid things with sulfates, parabens, and dyes and lean more towards products with natural ingredients.  I have an extremely dry scalp and skin, and want to do all I can to get my routine more natural! As an ecology and environmental science major, I’m always on the lookout for environmentally conscious brands. Garnier has been using active natural ingredients and is investing in eco-friendlier packing!

The UMaine chapter of Her Campus has been lucky enough to pair up with Garnier to try out their back to school “beauty responsibility” kit. In the kit involved the following:

  • Micellar Cleansing Water

I’ve been using their micellar water for ages and I swear by it. It’s perfect for getting off a full face of makeup before I wash my face, or for just taking off my basic mascara/eyebrows/powder everyday look!  It doesn’t leave my skin feeling sticky which is a MAJOR plus.

  • Soothing Rose Water Facial Mist

I must start this out by saying I’ve been hearing the rave reviews about the rose water trend for some time now and I haven’t understood it…until now. I use this before doing my makeup and then throughout the day when my skin needs a little boost. It smells really nice and overall it seems to be helping my skin be more hydrated and less oily. Maybe it’s just fun to spray my face every once and a while, but whatever, I’m here for it. Also it’s 99% naturally derived so hell yeah!

  • 1 Minute Hair Masks

I wash my hair 3-4 times a week and only condition the ends. I picked the strengthening treat mask (mostly because it smelled like banana) and was shocked at how soft my hair was. It felt so nice, especially on my ends and it didn’t make my roots oily so that’s a huge win in my books. These masks are 98% naturally derived with a 94% biodegradable formula.

Overall, these products will continue to be part of my beauty routine, and if my word isn’t good enough to convince you to do the same, check out our Instagram – our social media editor Phoebe did her own review on them.
