Five Things to Know About Bachelorette Tayshia Adams

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Maine chapter.

The Bachelorette has created quite the stir before this season has even aired. Originally, Clare Crowley was slated to be the next Bachelorette, and although she was a bit older than the typical contestant at the age of 39, many people were very happy that Clare would be starring in the next season and were completely shocked to hear that she had been replaced midway through filming her season.

According to People Magazine, Clare was stripped of her title as the bachelorette because she was already in love before the show aired! They wrote, “One of her potential guys found a way to get in touch with her and they began talking…By the time filming officially began, they were basically already in love. No one else stood a chance. It just became so obvious from her subsequent few dates that her heart wasn’t in it and she just wasn’t feeling it. Then she said she wanted out.” It has been rumored that she fell in love with Dale Moss, a former NFL player from South Dakota. It’s fantastic that Clare has found the man of her dreams, but that does not make for interesting reality TV so she had to be replaced. To provide the juicy dramatic content that Bachelor Nation loves, Clare was replaced by Tayshia Adams.

Fans may remember Tayshia from Bachelor in Paradise where she found love with none other than John Paul Jones, a quirky man with a big heart. Unfortunately, their relationship did not last, but she has been given a new opportunity to find love in this upcoming season. Here are five fun facts about the newest Bachelorette, Tayshia!

We’ve Met Her Before

Tayshia was first introduced to Bachelor Nation on Colton’s season of The Bachelor. Unfortunately, she was eliminated on week nine when Colton decided to end the show and pursue Cassie Randolph, but this experience has led her to new adventures like becoming the Bachelorette, and she has always remained a fan favorite.

Making History

Tayshia is the first Bachelorette to replace a former Bachelorette within the same season, and only the second Black woman to become the Bachelorette. Clare’s sudden decision to quit left producers scrambling- since this situation is very unprecedented, fans have a lot of questions. Was Tayshia given a whole new group of guys to choose from, or did she have to pick up where Clare left off? Were new men cast that were more age-appropriate for Tayshia due to her and Clare being from different age groups? And, most importantly, did both Tayshia and Clare leave in happy relationships at the end of the show? It’s rumored that Clare and Dale are still together, but nobody has released any information on Tayshia’s relationship status.

She’s Vocal About Important Issues

Tayshia Adams supports the Black Lives Matter Movement and is very vocal about it on her Instagram page. On June 5th she posted “Black Lives have ALWAYS mattered. The point of #blackouttuesday is to educate, share the news/resources, and push forward. NOT SILENCE YOUR VOICES but to silence EVERYTHING ELSE. YES, WE NEED SOLIDARITY BUT CONTINUE THE MOMENTUM!” It is wonderful to see a celebrity use their platform to advocate for social justice and reform.

We Can Relate to Her

Tayshia loves drinking coffee! Her Instagram page is full of pictures showcasing beautiful lattes. It appears Starbucks is her favorite national chain brand of coffee, but she has been posting coffee from small shops too. The most delicious latte is a Black Velvet Mocha with foam and cream swirled on top. We hope plenty of coffee dates are in her future!

Her Past Career

Before becoming a star, Tayshia was a phlebotomist, meaning that she drew people’s blood for a living. She enjoyed forming relationships with her patients where she worked in SoCal. Her previous career choice has caused many people in Bachelor Nation to make jokes about men feeling woozy when they see her, or feeling faint and weak in the knees because they are so in love! Hopefully, nobody faints in the upcoming season!

Don’t forget to tune into the latest season of The Bachelorette, which airs on ABC on October 13th at 8 p.m. EST. It will also be available for streaming the next day on Hulu!
