Campus Celebrity: Justin Edwards

Most of you know Justin as that guy killing it for UMaine on the court or the guy recently named America East Player of the Week, but I got to chat with him and learn more about the guy under the jersey.

Justin has been playing basketball since he was 12, and has found himself in the point guard position for as long as he can remember. It was not a hard choice for him to commit to the Black Bears, because of the loyalty of the coaches and the overall atmosphere of the team.

Though he is only a sophomore, Justin admitted with the utmost confidence that his favorite thing about the school, bedsides basketball, is OHOP.

Justin has found his place on the Black Bears, but still has some personal traditions he practices before each game. Before the games, Justin is constantly thinking about how he can play his best, and focusing himself to help his team get the win. Justin’s current “pump-up” song is “Ambitions” by Wale.

In just his first season, Justin was named the CollegeHoops.net America East Rookie of the Year, he was named to the All-America East Rookie Team and Named the America East Rookie of the Week two consecutive weeks in a row. This year Justin was called to the College Sports Madness Preseason All-America East First Team.

On the court the team is all business, but Justin revealed a much more casual team dynamic off the court. The team can often be found dancing in the locker-room, joking around and just having a good time together.

“Luke Hetterman is definitely the best dancer of all of us, he is always dancing,” said Justin.

Justin is a team player, but admits that in a hypothetically perfect game if he got a fast break, he would definitely go for the through the leg dunk.

You can check out Justin and the rest of the Black Bear Men’s Basketball team on the court in the Alfond Arena or keep up with the team (@BlackBearHoops) or Justin personally (@justedwards14) on Twitter.
