Your Instagram profile is the one thing that is judged solely based on first glance. Whether it has a theme going or it’s all pictures of you & your boyfriend, it’s easy for someone to make inferences about you.

“She has a theme? Wow, she must have nothing better to do.”

“She’s got it all.”

“Her passion for her Insta game is probably the only thing going for her.”

“I literally want to be her. Look how perfect her account is.”

Now, you could be sitting there thinking the same thing about that girl in your class’ Instagram. It could be the pictures of her Louis Vuitton suitcase set or pictures of her sitting by poolside at her lakeside house. Whatever it is, it can eat at us. “I’m jealous of her Insta game.” It sounds so stupid saying it out loud. But the problem with that is, is that we let this control us. We let it infect our minds, and somehow social media tricks us into thinking what we see, is what we get. It’s so sneaky like that.

People hide behind their screens and make their reality look more glamorous than it truly is. At what cost? Someone thinking you have it all together? We are only fooling ourselves at that point. That girl you aspire to be on Insta may be getting 600+ likes on a picture, but what you don’t see, is how she struggles to press “post” every time because she is nervous about how many likes her picture will get. If it doesn’t reach more or equal to the number of likes of her last picture, she feels pressure to buy likes.

Why do you aspire to be someone who hides behind a screen, too? Your validation doesn’t come via the number of likes you get, followers you have or whether or not you’ve achieved your aesthetic.

It comes from being confident in yourself. And at the end of the day, being able to say that you stayed true to yourself, is all that you need.

There is a way to show that there is more to you than just your Insta theme…be authentic! Post content that makes you happy and gives a little peak into your own world.

By being genuine and posting content that you like, you will be making a positive impact on social media. Others will be able to tell that you’re being authentic and will be drawn to that, aspiring to do the same on their own accounts.

So, yes, there is more to her than her Insta game. Sit down and grab coffee with her, maybe then you’ll realize there is more to the girl behind the screen than you think.
