Sunday Scaries: 5 Tips for Halloweekend Recovery

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Iowa chapter.

It is currently October which means “Halloweekend” is fast approaching! Whether it be staying up all night watching scary movies with friends, eating all the chocolate in sight, hitting the hottest costume parties on campus, or kicking it at the bars, there is bound to be some sort of aftermath as it always seems. Don’t let those Sunday Scaries keep you from going out, just be prepared and know they are coming. Here are some tricks (and treats) to bounce back and rejuvenate after that multiple day Halloween celebration.

Hangover Homework?..No thanks!

The last thing that I think you will want after Halloween is having to get up Sunday morning and cram for a test or finish a paper. The week before, check ahead and spend some extra time getting everything done so that you can just relax after the festivities die out. The worst pain is the combination of a hangover plus school work stress. This is not a desirable combo and the Sunday Scaries feed off that type of thing so do what you can to beat em!

Monster Mess!

I am going to guess that I’m not the only one who has woken up after Halloweekend thinking a tornado has passed through while I was out. Don’t fall victim to piles of clothes as the result of indecisiveness on which costume to wear, a desk now unusable covered in makeup, and the trail of Halloween candy wrappers cluttering the floor. After you’re up, put on some music and the first task of the day should be to clear your space. The Sunday Scaries will laugh if you lay in filth all day. New month new me! Start November off clean and organized. Put away your pumpkins so you can relax the day away without having to stress about that monstrous mess.

Haunting Headaches

Candy, sugar, late nights, and partying can result in some unpleasant feels after its all over. The main source of the Sunday scary headached is dehydration. It is important to hydrate your body and get on top of it rather than sulking in the feeling all day long while lounging in bed. Hydrate the minute you wake up and you will already be ahead of the game. Here is a list of the best liquids you can re-fuel your body with after the weekend (I am not a health professional).

    ~Liquid IV

    ~Gatorade 0

    ~Pedialyte

    ~Chocolate Milk!

Spooky Spa

Take off that mascara, wash the costume color from your hair, and scrub away what is left of that spray tan and glitter. The next tip to detoxing and feeling refreshed after this busy weekend is to take care of your body. Even if you are so tired, hygiene can make you feel a thousand times better. Face masks are great for after Halloween for hydrating skin that may have had more make up than usual. Be sure to moisturize too, its November now and winter is coming!

 Fall Financing

Halloween is a great checkpoint to start saving! November brings black Friday as well as the start of holiday shopping. Use November 1st as a marker to start setting aside a couple bucks or picking up a couple extra babysitting gigs. You will thank yourself when it comes to the day after Thanksgiving and everything in site is on sale! It feels good to be able to buy others gifts.

Halloween is so fun and the fun shouldn’t be spoiled by over-tiredness or dehydration the next day. I hope even just one of these tips can help you conquer the struggle of Sunday Scaries. It happens to everyone so don’t be scared just be prepared!
