One of the most famous diners in Iowa City, Hamburg Inn No. 2, not only offers amazing food but local charm.
Located on 214 N. Linn Street, Hamburg Inn No. 2 was originally started in 1930 by Joe Panther who sold hamburgers as cheap as five cents to hungry customers. Currently, Hamburg Inn No. 2 features a unique menu ranging from mouthwatering burgers to the famous pie shakes that were featured in the New York Times travel section.
As soon as one walks in the door you can tell that Hamburg Inn No. 2 is truly special. The diner is small, but quaint with booths and tables scattered everywhere. The walls are lined with pictures of famous celebrities and politicians that have made stops at the restaurant including, Bill Clinton and Ronald Regan.
The popular restaurant has been given numerous awards for their service and food. They won KCRG ‘s award for Best Burger and also Best Independent Restaurant Association’s award for Best American Platinum Plate Award.
This restaurant is perfect if students are thinking of a great place to eat when their families come into town. It offers great history, along with an extensive menu that will never leave you hungry. It is also features one of the best breakfast menus in town offering a make your own omelet portion (which I suggest) to Biscuits and Gravy. I highly recommend checking this place out if you are looking for some great food and history of an Iowa City landmark.
