Movies, Movies, Movies. Who doesn’t love movies? Sometimes the best thing to do on a Friday night is watch a classic movie with you friends. Luckily, Iowa City has many options to settle your movie craving.

CAB Movies at the IMU

Cab features movies every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the IMU for only $3. They are fairly new movies, so if you didn’t get a chance to see them in theaters, the IMU has your back! Also, if you’re involved in Greek life, you can wear your letters and get FREE ADMISSION. Who doesn’t love a free movie? I know I do.

Marcus Theaters

There are two Marcus Theatres in the Iowa City Area, located in the Sycamore and Coral Ridge Malls. Marcus Theatres features $5 movie on Tuesdays and $5 Student Thursdays. Plus, students get free unlimited popcorn on Thursdays. The Theater at Sycamore has many screens, so they often show a majority of the movies that come out each week. Sycamore Theater is a lot less known than the Coralville Theater so you might consider going here if you want to avoid the crowd.

Film Scene

Film Scene is a very personal kind of theater located in our very own Iowa City. Many don’t know of Filmscene, but they offer lots of cool indie films. This theater offers movie tickets for Students for $6.50. For general admission, prices range from $7.50-$10. On Wednesday Night, Filmscene also hosts Late Shift at the Grindhouse where they showcase low budget horror movies, as well as horror classics. This is especially wonderful for those on a budget because tickets are $4, a PBR tallboy is $3, and popcorn is $2.

Bijou Cinema

Bijou Cinema hosts movies after hours on Saturday Nights at Filmscene. These movies usually show at 11 p.m. Bijou shows recent releases, classics and many fan-favorite movies through this program. Bijou also shows film forums to engage the community about different fields of study. These movies are usually on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. Finally, Bijou has a program called Bijou Horizons. Through this, Bijou shares movies from other cultures. There are only five of these shows per semester, but if you go to all of them, you are eligible to win a $1,500 study abroad scholarship. General admission to Bijou shows is $5 for non-UI students, and for UI students movies are free.

Check out these movie venues because honestly, netflix and chill is overrated anyway.
