Meet Christie Crossman, you’re UI Campus Celebrity of the week! Crossman, who is from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is a junior at Iowa majoring in Communication Studies with a minor in Business Administration and Human Relations. She is also a morale captain for this year’s University of Iowa Dance Marathon.
“I decided to join Dance Marathon initially because all of my friends were doing it,” Crossman admits. “After my first Big Event, I realized how amazing the cause is and how much I love everything about it.”
Not only had Crossman been on leadership for two years before becoming a morale captain for the marathon; she’s also done a second marathon to benefit the first.
“The last two years I’ve run the Chicago Marathon with Dance Marathon, and I never thought that I could actually finish either time,” explains Crossman. “It feels so good to actually make it to the finish line and to feel so accomplished.”
Aside from the Big Event for Dance Marathon in February, Crossman also loves tailgating in the fall and all of the events she gets to participate in through her sorority, Tri Delta. She also loves hanging out with friends and shopping – who doesn’t?
Crossman credits her parents as her biggest inspiration because of their unwavering support.
“They are amazing people who are always there for me no matter what. Not sure what I would do without them.”
After graduation next year, Crossman hopes to work for a non-profit or charity in Colorado or Chicago.
“I think it would be an amazing experience to get to work somewhere that gives back and fights for a cause.”
Also, here’s a belated Happy Birthday to Crossman who recently turned 21!
