It’s Greek philanthropy season and whether you’re Greek or not, there are so many ways to get involved and help Greek affiliations raise some serious money for their philanthropies. During the month of March, seven Greek organizations put on events for their philanthropies. Pi Kappa Phi hosted their War on Roses competition to raise money for their own foundation, The Ability Experience, that assists people with disabilities. Gamma Rho Lambda’s Sunshine Project was dedicated to supporting the LGBTQ+ community by giving students the opportunity to fills out Sunflower Grams. Pi Beta Phi hosted their Pi Phi Sugar High, where all proceed went to their Pi Beta Phi Foundation that is focused on literacy initiatives to help children develop a love of reading. Sigma Pi successfully raised $1,900 with their Sorority Superbowl flag football tournament for Sean Vernon’s Amazing Day Foundation, a foundation that works to reduce suicide in college students. Delta Zeta’s Sundae Funday was a hit and assisted The Starkey Hearing Foundation. Alpha Delta Pi members took pies to their face at their carnival themed philanthropy event in honor of the Ronald McDonald House. Sigma Lambda Beta hosted their School Drive to collect items for a Chicago charter school.

Delta Gamma Anchor Splash 

What: Hosted by the women of Delta Gamma, this philanthropy event encourages fraternities, sororities, and campus organizations to complete in relays, create a synchronized swimming routine, and participate in other activities throughout the week! More information here

Gamma Phi Beta Crescent Classic Carnival

What: The women of Gamma Phi Beta wil be hosting an evening of carnival and yard games, hot dogs, popcorn, and cotton candy! More information here.

When: Wednesday, April 8 from 4—7pm

Where: 328 N Clinton St. (Gamma Phi Beta House) 

Benefiting: Girls on the Run 

 

Lamba Theta Nu’s Walking Tacos 

What: The women of Lambda Theta Nu will be selling walking tacos, horchata, and lemonade. 

When: Friday, April 10 from 11 am—5 pm 

Where: 8 S Clinton St. (outside of Iowa Book) 

Benefiting: Lamba Theta Nu’s chapter in order to assist them in hosting their first Latina Youth Leadership Conference  

 

Alpha Epsilon Phi’s Jazz on Rocks 

What: Alpha Epsilon Phi is hosting their annual silent auction and will be providing entertainment. 

When: Friday, April 10 from 6—9pm

Benefiting: Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation

 

Sigma Nu’s Kickin’ It for a Cure 

What: Join the men of Sigma Nu in their kickball tournament. More information here

Alpha Phi’s Red Dress Gala

What: The Red Dress Gala is hosted by the women of Alpha Phi to promote cardiac care awareness and benefit women suffering from heart disease. Food, entertainment, and a silent auction will take place. Order your tickets now! More information here

Zeta Beta Tau’s Get on the Ball

What: The men of Zeta Beta Tau will be rolling a six-foot ball around the Anne Cleary Walkway in efforts to receive signatures for charity. Each signature is matched with a donation from a local business. The kickoff to this event will take the evening before and will include raffles, volleyball, beanbag toss, food, and guest speaker, Aly Olson, who was Miss Iowa 2014. More information here

Alpha Xi Delta’s Step It Up 5K 

What: The women of Alpha Xi Delta will be putting on a 5K for runners and walkers that will take place around city park. Sign up now!

Benefiting: Autism Speaks 

 

Sigma Chi Derby Days 

What: The men of Sigma Chi will be hosting a week long competition between sororities to raise money for their philanthropy. Find further details here

Phi Delta Theta’s Tugfest

What: Sorority women are encouraged to make teams of five to join the men of Phi Delta Theta in their tug-of-war competition. More information here

Kappa Kappa Gamma’s Kappa Kickoff

What: The women of Kappa Kappa Gamma are hosting their first annual flag football game for all students to participate in. More information here

Lambda Chi Alpha Teeter-Totter-A-Thon

What: The men of Lambda Chi Alpha will be teeter-tottering for 48 hours straight; stop by their house to watch, donate, and eat. More information here

Phi Kappa Psi & Kappa Alpha Theta’s Phi Psi Theta Sand Slam 

What: The men of Phi Kappa Psi and the women of Kappa Alpha Theta are collaborating to put on a sand volleyball tournament and are encouraging all students to make teams of six players with three men and three women.
