Hosting a Tailgating Party – Hawkeye Style

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Iowa chapter.

This football season is in full swing and with all of the home games this season— there are plenty of guests coming in to town. Your friends from the opposing schools may want to come in to town to watch their team try and win and they will need a place to stay. You can open up your place and let them stay with you, but if you do, make sure you have the means and necessities to show them a good time.

•A comfy place to sleep—try to ensure that each of your guests has a place to crash. Whether it be a sleepover in your bed with your closest friends, the couch, your roommate’s bed (but only if they say it’s ok before hand), or the floor, make sure everyone has plenty of blankets and pillows and that they get a good nights sleep for the long festivities that follow the next day.

•Have food—who doesn’t like to eat? Make sure your fridge and cupboards are fully stocked with food so your guests don’t go hungry. Also, it will save them money, which they will probably thank you for. You know your fiends, so have a few of their favorite snacks. Feeding your friends could get pricey, but when you visit them, they will remember how great of a host you were and hopefully repay the favor. If you and your friends want to go out to eat, take them somewhere that is unique to your town, that is fun and exciting, and where everyone can find something they like.

•Have drinks—make sure your cooler is fully stocked for tailgating! Alcohol can be expensive, so if stocking the cooler and fridge isn’t doable, make sure your friends know where they can go to get their tailgating drink of choice, but only if they are of age!

• Have something planned—show your friends that your town is a fun time! You know where the best tailgates and after parties a re, so show your friends a good time and take them with you. Make sure to introduce your friends from out of town to the friends you hang out with at school. They will want to meet each other and maybe even share some interesting stories about you. These are just a few tips on how to host your friends from out of town. If you follow these, then they are guaranteed to have a great time!
