Her Campus UIowa chats with the Stars of Pitch Perfect

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Iowa chapter.

Her Campus got the opportunity to have a round table interview with the stars of the new movie, Pitch Perfect. It all seemed surreal at first, sitting face to face with movie stars, even though they couldn’t actually see me, it seemed like we were in the same room. Just the day in the life of a Her Campus- UIowa girl.

First up to speak with us was Brittany Snow and Ana Kendrick. Brittany Snow had starred in Hairspray and Ana Kendrick was in the Twilight series. Ana Kendrick’s, plays the role of Beca in the upcoming film is the star of the movie, with her past experiences include working on Broadway productions  when asked if it was different she answered,

“The transition from Broadway was scary because of such a big audience and the recording studio was a difficult environment to get used to. It’s so much different than doing a play because of all of the prerecorded material for the film.”

The two girls really seemed to get along great and when asked how the chemistry was off the set; both girls looked at each other and started to laugh.

Ana responded with, “I hate Brittany Snow so much. No, but really, we hang out so much it’s gross.” The two really clicked on and off the set and they admitted that their friendship helped with their scenes because they were able to feed off of each other.

Adam Devine, from Workaholics, was another star I got to chat with. He said that he had a great time doing the film and Rebel Wilson was great to work with.
“It was great to work with another actor that knows improv. She rolls with the punches.” He is originally from Waterloo, Iowa and I was dying to ask him how he handled the transition from small town Midwest Iowa to the big time.

He laughed and responded, “Oh, yeah! Go Hawks! But really, it’s easy and everyone should do it. It was weird and my mom was scared and only let me to go Orange County to start with, but it was all worth it.” He also said that he would be in Iowa City for the Nebraska vs. Iowa game in November, so ladies make sure to keep an eye out for him in the stands! Adam didn’t have a musical background before the film, but he admitted to us that “Please Don’t Stop the Music!” was his favorite song to sing and he constantly sings it. He ended his portion of the interview with,  “People will sing a lot after seeing the movie and won’t be able to stop. Everyone should see it!”

Ester Dean, singer/song writer, plays the character Cynthia Rose in the film was sat with Hana Mae Lee who ironically had a lot to say to  us since she plays a timid quiet character in the film. Hana Mae Lee also is on Workaholics, and like Adam, she loves improv. “I love improv. Workaholics is just funny and it’s how everyone wants their life to be. The improv in this film was great, too.” Ester Dean told us that it was amazing to sing a song for the movie that she got to co-write. She also said that it was different being on screen than singing her songs, but she said, “I got to be free and I loved it!” These two girls were a lot of fun and laughed the entire time. Hana Mae Lee let us in on a little secret, too: She actually does her own beat box for the movie.

These two ended their interview portion with, “Everyone needs to see this movie!”

According to the stars that I had an opportunity to chat with, Pitch Perfect, is going to be a hit and the must-see of the season! I think everyone should take their word for it and go see the film! Stay tuned into Her Campus-UIowa for more exclusive interviews like this one.
