Galentine’s Day Ideas: To Prove You Can Have Fun Without a Man

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Iowa chapter.

With the help of everyone’s favorite quirky “Parks and Recreation” character Leslie Knope, played by the lovely Amy Poehler, Galentine’s Day is a new way for women to celebrate each other. Or as Leslie Knope would say herself, “Oh, it’s only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas.”

Since women celebrating women is always a great way to have some fun, I have provided a few ideas to start your Galentine’s celebrations off right!

Brunch

Just like the ladies in Parks and Rec, brunch is a great way to start off a celebration by enjoying some great breakfast food, with perhaps a mimosa on the side as well. If going out to a restaurant does not entice you, having a little pot luck with your best friends could also be a great alternative, this will allow you all to show off your culinary skills and fill your stomachs with food made with love. Whether you go out to a nice spot or not, brunch is a great way to begin your day celebrating with the ladies who mean the most to you.

Wine Tasting

There’s no better way to celebrate your girls than a nice glass of wine and perhaps a Charcuterie board. Whether you go out and live your bougiest life with your girls, or you have a nice wine night in, you can never go wrong getting a little wine drunk with your friends. If just drinking wine and hanging out with your best friends isn’t enough for you, you could always spice it up and by doing a paint and sip. Even if you’re still trying to have a girls night in, you could always buy your own paint and canvases and get creative on your own. Pinterest has plenty of boards that can give you ideas for you all to paint, whether it be Galentine’s Day related or easy designs that skilled and non-skilled painters can enjoy.

Photobooth

While the holiday as a whole is about women celebrating each other, it’s also nice to remind people that without a man you always have your girls by your side, so why not make yourself a cute photoshoot to prove that to people? Luckily, now that Galentine’s Day has become a hot new holiday to celebrate, stores like Party City have cute banners along with several heart balloons and Galentine’s Day themed props. While these decorations and props are great to take pictures with, they can also add an extra pop to your party, or they can be reused for any Valentine’s Day celebrations you plan to have the next day.

Thanks to this fun new holiday, celebrating your favorite girls can help you remember that celebrating Valentine’s Day with a boy will never be as fun as being with those who have been there with you from the beginning. Whether you start your celebrations as soon as your day starts, or end your evening with your favorite gals, there’s nothing better than celebrating the love you share with your best friends.
