Four Must-Have Outfits for the Trendy College Girl

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Iowa chapter.

Hands down, fall is the best season. The colors, the smell in the air, the way it’s chilly, but not too cold… it’s all just perfect. But above all else, what I love most about fall is getting to break out the sweaters & scarves. Cozy, cute clothes are the best way to go!

Here are a few recommendations to stay chic. I chose some classic pieces that you can wear every fall season; this way, you get the most bang for your buck, and you don’t have to spend a fortune every time the season changes.

Collegiate Comfort – Hoodies and jeans will never go out of style, especially when the crisp, fall air is around! Throw in some teal converse for a little pop of color, a cute bag to carry your books in, and a little bling – my saying is  glitter is my favorite color – and you’ll be showing up to class comfortable and looking cute!

Study Chic – Yes, ladies, I do realize how comfortable sweats are. However, you can look cute AND be comfy with an outfit like this. (You never know when a hottie will walk into wherever you’re studying, be it the coffee shop, a bookstore, or one of Iowa’s eleven libraries). Grab a fitted sweater with a big scarf, a hat, your favorite jeans, green converse (I’m obviously a fan of the Converse), and a stylish fitted coat. It’s okay to splurge on your outerwear – especially when you live in Iowa, where it’s winter almost six months of the year – you’ll get your full money’s worth, and you’ll look like a modern day Audrey Hepburn wherever you go! Who doesn’t love that?

Hit the Town! – Iowa City has some pretty great nightlife, and if you haven’t experienced it yet, don’t fret! With an outfit like this, you’ll fit right in, or more like stand out. Of course, this is a college campus, so you’ll see everything from cute tops, jeans, and heels, to outfits worthy of starring in a rap video. You need something – cute but sexy, nothing too risky, and comfortable enough to get my groove on with the girls or whatever cute boy I manage to bump into. Choosing a solid colored dress allows for a lot of versatility – you can accessorize any way you want to! I chose jewelry, but if it’s cold, you can easily substitute a cute scarf for the necklaces. Nude pumps go with everything, so they are the perfect staple for every college girl’s closet.

Dolled Up Date-That cute boy from whatever horrible class you’re stuck in at 9:30 am three times a week asked you out?! You couldn’t be more excited but… what are you going to wear!? Don’t panic! Take a cute, casual dress that you can doll up or dress down, depending on where you’re going, add a jacket to keep you warm, and some fun accessories with a color that really pops to add a little fun. I’ve taken one outfit, and given you both a day and evening look. Versatile, cute, fun. Now smile and you’re all set for the perfect date!
